Book Description

August 1, 2007
Have you ever dreamed of being your own boss? Of starting your own business? Of securing a cash income or enjoying the tax advantages of being self-employed? Food Booth, The Entrepreneur s Complete Guide to the Food Concession Business is not another get-rich-quick-with-no-money-down fantasy. It is a serious book for those who need complete and in-depth guidance about how to start and operate a food concession business. Whether your goal is financial independence or to earn extra cash on the side, this book will take you step-by-step through the start-up process, and help you avoid the common errors made by novices. Each step is thoroughly addressed by an expert with more than twenty years of experience in the business. It is the most in-depth and complete guide to starting and successfully operating a concession business available anywhere. Throughout, the author spells out the many planning and design decisions the reader will encounter and then outlines the pros and cons of each option. The first two sections of the book focus on a description of what the business entails and what you can reasonably expect to get out of it. And on planning your business, including the design of your booth, equipment, and menu. It covers such topics as defining your goals, developing a good business plan to achieve those goals, creating a unique business identity, licensing and insurance, planning a menu, selecting the right type of booth, travel issues, and budgeting. The remaining two sections provide an overview of events and how to pull everything together. Specific topics include how to locate, analyze for profitability, and procure contracts when scheduling events, how to handle cash, optimizing booth location, understanding set-up and operational procedures, managing employees, surviving health department inspections, successful marketing in the unique environment of the midway, and record keeping. Appendices include sample event applications, health permit license applications, and business forms, as well as a planning guide and a list of helpful online references. Numerous black-and-white photographs illustrate specific points. A one-of-a-kind resource, Food Booth is your road map to success in the food concession industry. No one considering starting a concession business can afford to be without it.

I guess it was my fault. April 30, 2009
Format:Perfect Paperback
I recently purchased the book with intent to aid my new taco truck business, but little did i did not realize the title "food booth" would be the entire contents of the book. It had many helpful hints and structure for setting up a concession business at a carnival or fair, but that about it. if your looking for information on street vending, hot dog stands, taco trucks, catering, ice cream trucks, or setting up any business outside of a fair, you'll be limited to about a page of information. More information lies in setting up and designing locations and booths for fairs, and less of the day to day logistics, tax aid, event permitting and insurance issues which i believe to be the most difficult ones that get skimmed over rather quickly. its a great book overall, but i guess it was my fault, the "concession business" = "booth at county fair"

I bought this book from the author when I was thinking about starting my own concession business to supplement my income. This is an awesome book. It give clear explanations of how to start a business, what you need to consider, make your plan and then how to implement your plan. The book probably saved me hours and hours of trying to find information on my own and did it all in an easy to read format. I would highly recommend it for anyone even thinking of possibly starting their own food business. The information is invaluable.

The food booth bible!!!!! January 9, 2008
Format:Perfect Paperback
I purchased this book for my parents who are reaching retirement, thinking that it would help occupy their time and give them some extra cash; i ended up keeping it for myself and had to purchase another copy!

This book is loaded with information in an easy to read format. The author does an excellent job of making complex points understandable and covering ideas that i wouldn't have given much thought to. By the end of the book i felt like i was ready to start my own booth and i even laughed many times throughout the book, the author's writing made me feel like i was sitting across from her and she was telling me all the secrets of the trade.

I have purchased my first trailer and hope to be up and running by April. Thanks Barb Fitzgerald!
