4.0 out of 5 stars Damon's First, and Hopefully not last
Damon's book, Bootleg is funny. To really enjoy it is to have missed a lot of his stand-up act's on cable and what not. I gave it four stars because it was funny, but a lot of his old stand-up material was in it. Now if a lot of new material was in it, then, I would have given it 5 stars,..like Drew Carey's Dirty Jokes & Beer. It's a riot for those who can identify...

3.0 out of 5 stars SOME PARTS FUNNY--SOME PARTS NOT!!!
I enjoyed most of the book. There were parts that had me rolling. However, most of the jokes I heard before. It was a good effort but new jokes should have been included.

Now if a lot of new material was in it, then, I would have given it 5 stars,..like Drew Carey's Dirty Jokes & Beer. It's a riot for those who can identify with being Black back in the 60's and 70's. I would definatley read another book from Wayans if he were to make a sophmore attempt,..I don't doubt that it would be any less comical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!, October 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bootleg (Hardcover)
I love this book! It is truly a book of comedy. I couldn't put it down. The first three pages are truly hilarious because we were just watching these shows two years ago. I laughed and laughed and laughed. When I read the section about family, I laughed so hard that I nearly cried. I recommend that everyone gets this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable & humerous way to express pressing issues., June 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bootleg (Hardcover)
Damon Wayons has done it again. He has found another way to bless America with his gift of laughter. "Bootleg" is another form of Damon's comedy expressed to make people see the funny side of life but at the same time, the upsets and other trying issues that effect people in everyday life. I really enjoyed this book and have recommended it to other readers. Damon always knows how to make you smile on your worst day. I also found the contributions by aspiring writer, David Asbery to be very beneficial. He is definately on his way to being a prominent writer that will be noted for detail & truth. It seems that he also puts his heart and soul into his work. David, keep striving. Damon, well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Damon Wayan in Book Form!!!, June 15, 1999

This review is from: Bootleg (Hardcover)
Damon Wayans, one of the better Standup Comedians to come along in a long time, has written a book as hilarious as his stage act. Raw, unapologetic, but never mean, Damon Wayans' comedy style and cadence comes through every page of "Bootleg". Some comic snippits, in fact quite a few, are directly from previous HBO Comedy Specials; but alot is orginal, and all is very funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bootleg is the funniest book I have ever read, January 20, 2005
This review is from: Bootleg (Hardcover)
It's funny, Its been a long time since I read bootleg, but it still gives me the chuckles. Damon Wayans is a comic genius, I only wish he could get back into the limelight again with movies or comedy specials. For anybody who writes him off as just another black comedian, you have to read this book!!!! Well worth the price I paid.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fast, Funny Read, October 11, 2002

(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Bootleg (Paperback)
Continuing the trend of stand-up comedians putting their act on the printed page, Bootleg offers small snippets of Damon Wayans' wit and wisdom on a variety of topics, including, but not limited to, race, marriage, kids, sex, pets, and growing up "Po". I especially enjoyed the stories about his famous siblings when they were all kids. The book is VERY slim, and most pages are only 1/2 to 3/4 filled, so it's a REALLY quick read, but as Damon points out in the book, if it makes me laugh, it's ok. I laughed a LOT, so it was worth the price. Lots of fun!

Damon has came a long way since In Living Color and it shows. This book of standup material is a riot. Strange though that his brother gets into Scary Movie but I digress. If you like humor it's all good.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a funny book, March 19, 2000
This review is from: Bootleg (Hardcover)
Ok, first of all, I am white. And Damon makes a lot of jokes about being black and also being white. He picks on both races. And both are funny. He says that all white guys use the word "dude." Well, I think he's right! Bascially, this book is really funny. It's not all race jokes, though. He makes jokes about women, and children. I haven't seen any of his stand-up specials, so maybe that's why I thought this was so funny. If you like to laugh, then this is a good book to read.
