Ms. Grae the unknown vet, destine for stardom,
By
This review is from: The Bootleg Of The Bootleg EP (Audio CD)
Probably the most creative person in Hip-Hop, definitely one of the best. Jean Grae is a breath of fresh air in a world where it's not about talent, but who you know. Why did 50 blow up? (I'll leave that one alone) Jean won't blow up, it's a shame. It's rare a person is this complete. Her rhyming skills are undeniable, but don't forget she also is incredible behind the boards. I love her production, it's so soulful. The fact this is branded an "EP" is a shame. Yes, it only has six tracks. But the bonus track [six] is 45 minutes. And Jean freestyling over other peoples beats. She absolutly KILLS Jay Z's "lyrical exercise" And to be able to go from some hardcore underground flow, to singing like Phraell "I see some fellas tonight that should be hangin with Jean Grae" She is so versital. And on the bonus song tip, it doesn't sound "thrown together" It's not radio freestyles and throw away studios. The beats are taken form others, but the lyrics are ill, deep stuff you can listen to over and over. She could have easily flipped these verses over her own production and made this into 9 other tracks. This lady speaks her mind, and shows she has many sides. "My Crew" is my favorite song on the album, the beat is so mellow and has my head nodding. Add in her lyrics, sh*t I can't help but smile when I listen to it. Her best quality is how she can speak from her heart. I'm tired of hearing people talking about their rides and their jewels. Who cares? There is no depth to that. When I listen to Jean I feel like she is speaking to me. Her sense of humor is very dark and different. And when she pours her heart out, you can't help but relate. She shows she is human and has a lot of pain and inner struggle. Her ability to move in and out of her different personalities, is what sets her apart from her peers. Jean is in a class all by herself, don't sleep on her if you've never hear of Ms. Grae, or if you have a thing against "female" emcees. Think outside the box, and pick this album up. You will find a gem, I promise you.

I can't stand it,

I read something somewhere when I was drunk one night and bought this cd. Jean Grae is too much for me. She's as good or better than any male rapper, and her lyrics couldn't be more real. I am enraptured with this cd, and I've fallen in love with the persona "Jean Grae" so much that I could cry. For perspective, I also listen to Lil Jon.

I'm basing my review on the regular 6 tracks. Jean's production is tight as hell her rhymes are just as good. Don't be sexest and write her off because she is a women because she breaks through that steriotype. Im sure any MC would be more that proud to work with her. Track 5 is just about one of the illest songs I ever heard, and track 6 is dope too. She has a new CD out I wonder if its any good.
