Ms. Grae the unknown vet, destine for stardom,
By
This review is from: The Bootleg Of The Bootleg EP (Audio CD)
Probably the most creative person in Hip-Hop, definitely one of the best. Jean Grae is a breath of fresh air in a world where it's not about talent, but who you know. Why did 50 blow up? (I'll leave that one alone) Jean won't blow up, it's a shame. It's rare a person is this complete. Her rhyming skills are undeniable, but don't forget she also is incredible behind the boards. I love her production, it's so soulful. The fact this is branded an "EP" is a shame. Yes, it only has six tracks. But the bonus track [six] is 45 minutes. And Jean freestyling over other peoples beats. She absolutly KILLS Jay Z's "lyrical exercise" And to be able to go from some hardcore underground flow, to singing like Phraell "I see some fellas tonight that should be hangin with Jean Grae" She is so versital. And on the bonus song tip, it doesn't sound "thrown together" It's not radio freestyles and throw away studios. The beats are taken form others, but the lyrics are ill, deep stuff you can listen to over and over. She could have easily flipped these verses over her own production and made this into 9 other tracks. This lady speaks her mind, and shows she has many sides. "My Crew" is my favorite song on the album, the beat is so mellow and has my head nodding. Add in her lyrics, sh*t I can't help but smile when I listen to it. Her best quality is how she can speak from her heart. I'm tired of hearing people talking about their rides and their jewels. Who cares? There is no depth to that. When I listen to Jean I feel like she is speaking to me. Her sense of humor is very dark and different. And when she pours her heart out, you can't help but relate. She shows she is human and has a lot of pain and inner struggle. Her ability to move in and out of her different personalities, is what sets her apart from her peers. Jean is in a class all by herself, don't sleep on her if you've never hear of Ms. Grae, or if you have a thing against "female" emcees. Think outside the box, and pick this album up. You will find a gem, I promise you.

I read something somewhere when I was drunk one night and bought this cd. Jean Grae is too much for me. She's as good or better than any male rapper, and her lyrics couldn't be more real. I am enraptured with this cd, and I've fallen in love with the persona "Jean Grae" so much that I could cry. For perspective, I also listen to Lil Jon.

One of the best MCs Male or Female.,

I'm basing my review on the regular 6 tracks. Jean's production is tight as hell her rhymes are just as good. Don't be sexest and write her off because she is a women because she breaks through that steriotype. Im sure any MC would be more that proud to work with her. Track 5 is just about one of the illest songs I ever heard, and track 6 is dope too. She has a new CD out I wonder if its any good.

I first was introduced to this cd through a friend. After hearing a couple of cuts I knew I had to pick it up for myself. I cant wait to play it for some of my peoples. This album is soo tite. This album is true hip hop at it's best. Its definately a breath of fresh air from the soundalikes I hear and see in the mainstream. The hidden bonus tracks are off the chain. I just don't understand why artists hide tracks though? It makes them awfully hard to play. I say just put a number on them like the other cuts. Well anyway, Ms. Grae has to be one of the top emcee's in the scene right now. If not the best female. It's a shame that the powers that be are pushing image over talent and 'Bling Bling' over 'DA' real'.

Why Listen To Commercial Rap....When Jean Grae Is Reason Enough To Stray Away...,

Short and to the point.....6 tracks of pure listening enjoyment. But I have to admit that one track put me over the top..."Take Me". Jean displays poetic mastery over a smoothed out hip hop funk type track. Jean's lyrical display is matched by very few. Even though, Jean doesn't get mainstream appeal and recognition, I think that this is something that she is extremely comfortable with and rest assured that real hip hop heads will deeply appreciate Jean's contributions to hip hop. Also check out the underground mixtape..."Jeanius"(which is a very hard find, but if you can cop this gem, you're in for a treat). Good listening.

I couldn't how much this young talented woman has blossom, I've been listening to her for 4 years now, and I can't see one female touching this woman's ability. It hurt to say that, because I love Lauryn Hill, Rah Digga, and Jane Doe so much. But Jean Grae is very hungery and she is the only one out now doing it. She is witty, smart, intelligent word play with a dominant flow. She speaks from the heart, and the mood she feels at that moment. She reminds me of the earlier Eminem before he became a little commercial. But I'm in love with this chick, and keep blessin the mic.

this MC is amazing and has a message unlike all the commerical female MC's out there...worth 10 dollers even though there is only like 6 tracks, but they are all quality so its better then getting 12 garbage tracks.
