5.0 out of 5 stars Cube brings up important issues in his raps
Ice Cube's 'Bootlegs and B-sides' may be considered slow in part because it doesn't have all the slick rhymes and trash talk attitude heard so much on MTV recently; but Ice Cube is one of the greatest rappers alive because of his lyrical content. He raps about racism from cops, street violence, and making it to heaven. He makes it clear that his mind is not set on making...

3.0 out of 5 stars Dope.
This disc probably isn't that essential, but for the fanatic it's a must. It's a pretty solid mix of stuff. "24 With An L" is good, and I really like "My Skin Is My Sin". But this also has some sweet remixes. "I Was A Good Day" is different but good, and my favorite is "U Ain't Gonna Take My Life", which has great lyrics, and samples the Chili Peppers "Sir Psycho Sexy",...

"I Was A Good Day" is different but good, and my favorite is "U Ain't Gonna Take My Life", which has great lyrics, and samples the Chili Peppers "Sir Psycho Sexy", and En Vogue's "Never Gonna Get It". The last track is a sweet continuous mix of many of "Cubes" past hits. If you're a fan of his early 90's stuff, check out "Bootlegs & B-Sides".

He makes it clear that his mind is not set on making money anyway he can; I would definitely categorize him with Tupac.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ice Cube is DA BOMB Fo' Life!!! Tight remixes!, October 13, 1998

This review is from: Bootlegs & B-Sides (Audio CD)
I don't think it's Cube's best yet, but this is HELLA TIGHT!!! I just love "robbin hood..." and the remix of "you know how we do it" is tight as f#ck, even though the original is better. ther are more thight tracks I can write about but I'll make it short. The MegaMix at the end is straight up DOPE with Cube's ALL past work! Buy it!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The last great project from the Ice Cube we love, December 19, 2006
This review is from: Bootlegs & B-Sides (Audio CD)
Even this album is like a lost tapes album, it has a lot of gems in it. Standout Tracks: ROBBIN HOOD, WHAT CAN I DO REMIX, 24 WIT AN L, YOU KNOW HOW WE DO IT REMIX, CHECK YO SELF REMIX, YOU DONT WANNA F*** WIT THESE, LIL A** GEE REMIX, MY SKIN IS MY SIN(WC busts the best verse of his rap career on this one), U AINT GONNA TAKE MY LIFE, WHEN I GET TO HEAVEN REMIX etc. Filler: None. Bottom Line: Even though this album is mostly remixes and unreleased tracks it is still a classic worth picking up. Robbin Hood, 24 Wit An L, My Skin Is My Sin, U Aint Gonna Take My Life etc are all classic replay material. If you can find this album you make it a part of your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album!, June 6, 2006
This review is from: Bootlegs & B-Sides (Audio CD)
For those of us who have known Ice Cube for years, who are just now getting into him this is by far a great album. I'm not going to go into which songs are good and which are not, that is all just an opinion. If you like him today or yesterday pick it up for sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat Collection of B-Sides, April 8, 2007
By
This review is from: Bootlegs & B-Sides (Audio CD)
Late 1994, Ice Cube releases a collection of songs and remixes on Bootlegs and B-Sides. Many songs are not on any of his original albums, and several are remixes of joints from 1992's The Predator and 1993's Lethal Injection, and most of them are fire. The only one I don't like is the remix for "It Was A Good Day" because the beat was lacking for some reason the magic that the original had. The 1994 remix for "You Know How We Do It" remixed by Cube himself (originally produced by legend QD3) is just as slammin and has a slightly different G-Funk beat and loses ther potent, loud whiny synth of the original and replaces it with a much softer one in the hook. The remix to 1993's "When I Get To Heaven" is bouncier and funkier than the smooth original, is remixed QD3, and has a good deep groove to it. I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers sample in "You Ain't Gonna Take My Life" which is another dope gangsta boogie beat dealing with crooked and violent cops. "Robbin' Hood (Cause It Ain't All Good)" may have a humorous title, but is serious and adrenaline paced with a neat funky beat and whiny keyboard loop. "Chack Ya' Self (Remix)" features boom bap legends Das EFX over a bouncy funk sample and features cool battle raps by Cube. Das only appears in the hooks unfortunately, but still a dope old-school inflected jammer for the lowrider. I love the cool, bouncy remix to "What Can I Do" perfect L.A. soundtrack music. "Can't F--- Wit These" is an unreleased 1993 pre-g-funk banger with heated lyrics he is famous for. At the end, there is a cool mega-mix sampler of many of Cube's classics giving 30 about seconds of songs like "Ghetto Bird" (1993), "Who's The Mack" 1990, "Wicked" (1992), "You Know How We Do It" 1993 that mix in and lead in from one another smoothly, a fitting tribute to Cube's already legendary status. This may not be an album per-se, but definitely represents Ice Cube as a legend in the rap game and has some classic jams and remixes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good mix of old and new songs for the extreme Cube fans, December 15, 2002
By
This review is from: Bootlegs & B-Sides (Audio CD)
This album is a nice mix of some new previously unreleased tracks and some remixes of old tracks, but nothing special. As the case with most remixes, the originals are better, and the new songs aren't that great. Unless you are a die hard Cube fan or see this for an incredibly low price, it's probably not worth buying. Best track: "It Was a Good Day remix"
