Classic album albeit misleading title,
By Bradley Olson (Bemidji, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boots Randolph With the Knightsbridge Strings (Audio CD)
I would like to state that this is really not a reissue of the 1967 album called "Monument Proudly Presents Boots Randolph With The Knightsbridge Strings and Voices," but is rather a reissue of the "Boots With Strings" album from 1966 with "Stranger On The Shore" and "Dear Heart" omitted.
The tracks on the "Boots Randolph With The Knightsbridge Strings and Voices" LP are Temptation/Somewhere My Love/More/Charade/It's Not Unusual/Cast Your Fate To The Wind/Who Can I Turn To/Theme From Black Orpheus/Misty/People/Love Letters The "Boots With Strings" LP track listings: The Shadow of Your Smile/What Now My Love/Days of Wine and Roses/Yesterday/You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'/ What Kind of Fool Am I?/Moon River/Michelle/Stranger On The Shore/I Left My Heart In San Francisco/Dear Heart/Unchained Melody The CD reissue of the Boots With Strings LP, retitled "Boots Randolph With The Knightsbridge Strings" track listings are The Shadow of Your Smile/Days of Wine and Roses/Yesterday/You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'/What Now My Love/What Kind of Fool Am I?/Moon River/Michelle/I Left My Heart In San Francisco/Unchained Melody I give this CD 4 stars due to it not only being one of Boots' best albums, but they should have used the original LP title for the CD and included the 2 omitted tracks.

This album is right up there with his Yakety Sax album. Excellent material. Of special note are The Shadow Of Your Smile,a totally unique verion os Moon River and a tear-jerker version of Unchained Melody. Also a couple of Beatle songs through in. Considering when this album was recorded, the quality is extremely good.

Still the best Sax,

Don't want to date myself - but back when this album was released on vinyl my college roommate and I purchased two, placed them back-to-back on our turntable so we could listen to both sides without flipping the record. Boots - and this particular album - is still the sexyist sax on record. Every cut is worth hearing over and over. Even the selections that seem tiresome when performed by others are wonderful when Boots puts his passion into the music. Don't know why the college guys never figured out that the road to our seduction was via Boots - but it's never to late to learn. If you like sax - you'll love this album and if you are not sure what you like - this is a good start. Even my college student son agrees with me on that - hmmm ...

I had in the past had a hard time finding this album in the cd format.I do have the the origional album but wanted this version on cd format. The Sax' with the strings is awsome to me along with the back ground singers. When Boots plays (what now my love) he makes the sax sound like its talking and so meaning full .The other songs with strings like Micheil, Unchained melody,Strangers on the shore,Shadow of your smile,Yesterday,You lost that lovin feeling are all done with such feeling.Great CD

Probably not a commercial success, but superbly sensitive playing of melody! Once Boots has played a ballad, it's all been said!

The LP version of this album inspired me to take up playing the saxophone as a young child. Boots is at his very best playing these 60's hits. I dare to say that my autographed copy of this CD is my most cherished posession. Enjoy!
