Book Description

Romantic Comedy writer D. D. Scott two-steps into your heart with book one of her debut series. It's Chick Lit, Gone-Country. Think Sex and the City meets Urban Cowboy.

Book Description:

Manhattan apparel designer Roxy Rae Vaughn, who's also a still-in-the-closet, country line dancing queen, wants to be a fashion success story. Tired of being nothing more than a Fifth Avenue up-and-comer, thanks to her elitist parents, Roxy moves to Nashville, Tennessee and opens a boutique in a local tractor supply store, the only retail space she can afford. Short on cash and way, way down on luck, she rear-ends a pick-up truck belonging to a tomato-growin', bootscootin' cowboy who is anything but the perfect fit for her career plans, although he is her ideal dance partner. Can Roxy accept that her best fit is on the dance floor moving to her own style and her cowboy's lead?

Tomato farmer by day and bootscootin' instructor by night Zayne McDonald doesn't give a damn about winning Nashville's heirloom tomato contest, even though his late father did. Zayne wants to honor his father, but what he really wants is to line dance his way to a winner's spotlight. When he and Roxy are discovered by a huge dance show producer, Zayne learns it's partnering with Roxy that's his winning hybrid mix. That is, if he can keep her and the tomato contest away from Beefsteak Jack Baudlin, the toughest tomato man in CMT country.

2.0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn't September 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Does the story have potential? Yes. Of course I'm a firm believer most stories have potential and with a lot of work this story could be great too. There is no way on earth I would rate this at more than a 2 and that's really pushing it. I was unable to read past chapter 3, and it's very rare for me to be unable to finish a book. I was bored and just didn't care about the characters because the author spent more time focusing on the minor things instead of on developing the characters. And even though I thought the book was set in modern times, with the wording I felt like I was stepping into a 1900 Nashville instead of a modern one.Being from Nashville myself I can tell the author did absolutely NO research on the location and just used a stereotype for the storyline and characters.
The idea that Nashville is full of cowboys and cowgirls who chew on straw all day and go to "saloons" (we call them bars and clubs just like everywhere else)is completely ridiculous. Yes Nashville is the country music capital and all, but seriously the whole cowboy, line dancing, farmer, and cowboy dancing boots thing was way over done in this book. Walk around Nashville and it's just like every other city in America. Maybe if I didn't live outside of Nashville I would feel differently, but knowing that the area is nothing like the author portrayed really just made the book unrealistic to me.
The author needs a lot of editing and needs to spend more time focusing on the major aspects of the novel, like developing the characters and less on the "country" setting.
With some work and research I could probably give the novel a higher rating, I really wanted to like the book, it being based in Nashville, but I just couldn't.

Oh for heavens sake. I did my best to finish this book, I could not do it. Halfway into it I quit. Page after page of what people were wearing and what the furniture was like and what the pictures on the walls looked like. Life is to short to try and get through this book. Find something better to do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not ready for publication September 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Up front, I admit, I did not finish the book. Couldn't. The disjointed, amaturish writing continuously disrupted my reading experience. The story has potential, but it needs to be edited, rewritten, polished. Recommendation to the writer: pull the book and find a good editor to work with to smooth out awkward plot sequencing, rough wording, and to edit out insignificant details that do not contribute to the story. Recommendation to other readers: wait for a rewrite.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a delightful romp.
I thought this was a cute story and it didn't disappoint. The only thing that would have it better is if the sex scenes were not so graphic. Read more
