Additional toys can be purchased or you can be resourceful and add a few of your own.

The arches are made of fairly weak plastic poles and snap, bend, break easily.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )

I've attached a short video to show off the toys and parts of the gym, and below are my overall thoughts. I apologize in advance for some of the video artifacts caused by my overhead lights.

I'm really very impressed by the toys that came with this play gym. They are soft and plush, and they all offer some interesting characteristics to keep a baby's attention - some of them crinkle, some rattle, the peas are soft and can hide inside the pod, the flower has a mirror on one side, and the bee...oh, the bee...me likey. :) The bee is awesome! It's soft and cuddly by itself, but once activated, the lights on the wings blink and a nice tune plays. Some baby toys are so loud that I can't stand being around them, but this one is nice. It's loud enough to catch a baby's attention, but quiet enough that it isn't blaring or annoying (at least to me).

One remark - I think it's important to heed the warnings on the instructions about not leaving your baby alone with this. The top part can topple over if a baby puts enough force on one of the legs, and I think that a baby could easily do that by crawling or rolling against one. The mat and top portion are very light and soft, so a baby shouldn't be hurt if that happens - but they could easily get wrapped up inside it, so please keep an eye on the little ones with this gym.

Overall, two thumbs up from me on this.

This was very cute when we received it. We discovered right away however, that the tiny boppy pillow included is covered with a slippery fabric that is great for wiping clean, but the baby slides right off of it. You can't use it to prop up the baby for tummy play with the toys attached to the pillow because the baby slides right off of it. Also, the toys on the bar are great, but the bar that holds them above the baby is not. After gentle use for a few weeks (the baby laying on the mat for a few minute per day), the bar began to lean over to one side. It would no longer stand upright. Consequently, the toys would actually lay on my baby's face when he was on the mat. He would get really upset because the toys were way too close for comfort. After a minute or so, the bar was actually leaning over touching the mat. My husband and I tried everything to get it to stand upright again (including repositioning the toys), but in a minute or so, it would be leaning over again. I think it needs stiffer supports inside the arches. We are disappointed because we really liked it to begin with, but it just isn't an effective or safe playmat if the bar leans over and the toys are touching the baby's face. Amazon's great customer service is allowing me to return it for a refund, so we'll just look for something different to purchase.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
If you purchased the Boppy Play Pad, you'll be amazed at the ingenuity put into the Boppy Play Gym. You've got everything from carrots that "shake, rattle and roll" to a musical queen bee with light up wings. If you're a first-time parent or caretaker who read constantly in preparation for your little one, you are well aware of those developmental milestones and will be quite pleased with this gym. You'll be able to do everything from encourage early tummy time to watch your toddler sit on this spacious pad and pretend to read books.

Your pediatrician is likely to discuss the importance of tummy time and will let you know when to start. When I reviewed the Play Pad I had a few suggestions:

* Take off your baby's socks so he or she will be able to push and reach for the toys on the edge of the mat. This mat is designed for easy cleaning and if you leave those socks on it can be slippery. Babies start to reach for objects beginning at two months.

* Start slowly and put your baby on the mat for only a few minutes at a time, gradually increasing the time. If you start early enough it will seem like a natural position.

* Don't put the baby down on with a full tummy as it can be very uncomfortable.

* Rotate toys on the mat to prevent baby boredom. When the baby is older you can alternate sides of the arch.

* Every baby is different so watch carefully to see what is liked and not liked about tummy time and work with your baby so the time can be a happy one.

Pros:

++ The oversized pad is 36" x 36"

++ Both the pad and the pillow are wipeable for easy cleanup and machine washable.

++ The toys are specifically designed to match developmental milestones.

My husband and I are expecting our 1st little one in a few months and just received this play gym as a gift. First, it is one of the cutest things I've ever seen! We put it together last night and played with it for about an hour ourselves. :)

It comes with a number of adorable well-made toys which all attach easily to the mat in various ways: through holes in the arch or through loops in the included mini Boppy pillow or the mat itself. All of the various critters and veggies have happy smiling faces and each has a special feature that is appealing to babies: crinkles, rattles, bells and even a mirror. The queen bee even lights up and plays music. I was a little worried about the music being annoying but it's not. It is nice and quiet, plays for only a few seconds at a time (it is activated by being shaken or bumped gently) and doesn't play any particularly recognizable tune which is great for those of us who are prone to getting annoying songs stuck in our heads!

The colors are great-happy, vibrant greens and blues accented by orange. It has a number of interesting patterns as well: vines, polka-dots, even a funky retro hounds-tooth.

The quality is excellent, it's nice and sturdy, and it takes seconds to put it together or take it apart. It also breaks down pretty small so shouldn't take up much room to store it.

Added bonuses: it comes with starter batteries, wasn't over-packaged, and didn't reek of plastic or chemicals when we took it out of the box!

Update 2/2/2012:

Our little one is 8 months now and this has been one of the best toys we've owned. During her lying down months she spent many happy moments lying on the soft mat looking up at the fascinating toys. When she was able to, she would bat at them gleefully.
