I began to brain storm of why this would happen now, and the only thing I can think could have caused this is the fact that he can't move his head to the side in this pillow. Before using this, if he had spit up in his mouth he could move his head to the side and let it drain out. This pillow prevents him from doing that, it props the babies head so his face is straight up and makes it really difficult for him to move it to the sides.
I just thought I would let others know of my experience. I wish I would have known about this before buying this product.
My wife and I have been using this product with our son for 5 weeks now and have seen a dramatic improvement in the shape of our son's head. The flat spot is gone and his head is nice and round again! Here's what worked for us:
-We used the Noggin Nest anytime he was on his back (car seat, stroller, changing table, crib, feeding him on his back). I know the product is not recommended for sleeping, but after reading the other positive reviews (of parents who also used it for sleeping) I decided we should try using it when our son would take a supervised nap. We now use it anytime he sleeps.
-There were a lot of negative reviews regarding ears and "boppy bumps." To prevent what one reviewer described as "Hobbit ears," I had my son wear a skull cap anytime he was using the Noggin Nest. I purchased the skull cap from Polarn O. Pyret and it worked great for preventing his ears from folding over when he would turn his head. It may not work for everyone, but it did the trick for us. Also, I would regularly inspect the back of his head after using the Noggin Nest to make sure he wasn't getting what other customers referred to as a donut-shaped bump.
-Several reviewers complained that the pillow lost its shape after prolonged use, but I found that you could fluff it up again by kneading the stuffing back into place.
-Finally, we did lots of tummy time! And we switched to holding him upright or using a Sully Wrap, rather than cradling him in our arms all the time.Read more ›
Cons: Wish they had more patterns/colors.
I wish we had known about this product from the newborn stage. Our son had a slight flat spot because he has been an awesome sleeper since one month old, spending lots of bedtime flat on his back/head. Once we started using the Noggin we noticed a difference within two weeks, and a significant difference after a month. We used it anywhere and anytime we laid him flat from 2months to 4months old (stroller, car seat, crib, bouncer, rocknplay, mamaroo, playtime). Despite the manufacturer warnings, we did use it during sleeping periods until he started to roll over side to side. He never showed signs of discomfort while using the pillow, and he was able to move head from side to side easily while using pillow.
Note: The Noggin alone did not correct my little man's flat spot. We used the Noggin along with lots of tummy time per our pediatrician.
