5.0 out of 5 stars The Man with the Lash!, July 24, 2006
This review is from: Border Feud & Ghost Town Renegades-(2 Feature Films) (DVD)
BORDER FEUD: B & W, 55 minutes. 1947. Marshal Cheyenne Davis, aka The Cheyenne Kid ("Lash" La Rue) is on his way to Mesa City to help his pal Sheriff "Fuzzy" Jones (Al "Fuzzy" St. John) settle an old feud between the Harts and the Condons. Posing as an outlaw, Cheyenne is accepted by gang leader Bill Barton (Bob Duncan) and is told his job will be to continue stirring up trouble between the Harts and Condons. The plan is to make the two families kill each other off, so that a mine they own jointly, can be obtained at a price far below its value. Cheyenne's plan appears to fail when Fuzzy comes in and identifies him as a Marshal, but Cheyenne gets rid of him and tells Barton he has posed as a Marshal in the past and Barton seems convinced. Cheyenne later tells Fuzzy to make no arrests until the top man is found. A wounded Jim Condon (Brad Slavin) and his sister Carol (Gloria Marlen) ride into town and Cheyenne takes him to the office of Doc Peters (Ian Keith) for treatment. Cheyenne's efforts to patch up the feud are unsuccessful, even though Carol Condon is in love with Bob Hart (Kenneth Farrell). The Condon's and Harts are in a showdown battle, which is stopped by Cheyenne and Fuzzy, and Cheyenne reveals that Doc Peters is the man behind their troubles.
GHOST TOWN RENEGADES: B&W, 57 minutes, 1947. The bad guys are trying to take over property containing mineral wealth by killing off the heirs to the land one by one. Each heir is invited by letter to come to town to talk to Vance Sharp (Jack Ingram) about selling the property which is described as worthless by the land clerk Jonas Watson (William Fawcett). Watson and Sharp are in collusion. Before the heirs arrive in town, they are bushwhacked. Their bodies mysteriously disappear. Their trails always lead to the old ghost town. So Lash, who is an undercover marshal, investigates.

The Lash Larue Double Feature BORDER FEUD/ GHOST TOWN RENEGADES makes you very happy. It is a masterpiece in remastering, the picture is knife sharp and simply brings new life to these more than sixty years old films. Of course you have to be a b-western fan to really enjoy the plots and the actors but if you are you are in good hands here. Perhaps Lash Larue was not as big as Hopalog Cassidy and Roy Rogers but he really was okay and we are many who welcome this feature. For a long time it seemed there was only one Lash Larue film available on the market. Let those days be over.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic, July 20, 2011

Opinions will vary depending on the perspective of evaluation criteria. Yes, there are fancier western productions, but this is one of the old time classic "good guys vs. the bad guys". Got to love Lash for his character portrayal here, and his sidekick, Fuzzy, too. Another stereotype character -- the part just fits. I'd like to know how they did the whip scenes without causing some real injury. I bought Lash's DVD's because I remembered him from my childhood. I thought he was a "cool dude" then, and after replaying the ones I bought, I still think the same. Best to you, Lash, and thanks!
