I lived in Phoenix, AZ for 10 years. We have to deal with the issue of immigration more so than most other states. It got pretty wild at times but when I watched this documentary I didn't realize how wild it actually was. It is a slightly unsettling feeling to watch this and suddenly blurt out "Oh my gosh, I drive by that place all the time!"

It's pretty easy to judge a social issue you are not personally connected to. Sure, you see the media show the unjust deportation of immigrants just trying to pursue a better life in our borders, and it makes you sad and sympathetic. However, most illegals are connected to a criminal enterprise usually as an exploited victim or as the predatory drug runner/coyote. It's just brutal what the drug cartels and coyote operations do... oftentimes it is just barbaric. They don't stop at anything to exploit and make money. The coyotes regularly assault women in their group to the point the women know to carry protection. The whole cartel-coyote operation is really a crime against basic humanity.

Another maddening aspect of this show is how little care the border patrol gets from the federal government. The career politicians in Washington will not even give them decent living quarters where they have a real bathroom instead of an outhouse! These are people trying to protect our safety from very predatory forces, and I wish my tax money would go to make their jobs easier rather than funding congressmen's lobster dinners, champagnes, and vacations.

It is my hope states in the north and the east better understand the depth of this issue.

I own all the season of Border Wars and let me tell you the Reality is amazing. The show is a about what happen in real life on every port of entry in the US. Mostly focus on Southern border because the majority of the drugs and illegal immigrants enter over there more easily than in any other port. Also there has been some episodes on different airports and land borders like New York, Puerto Rico, etc. The series show you how the Customs and Border Protection - Field Operations, Border Patrol and Air Marine risk their lives to protect the US from illegal drugs, illegal immigrants, illegal firearms, etc. It shows everyone the different types of concealments drugs cartels use to try to pass the drugs thru the border. Also it shows you how human trafficking works and the smugglers operation. It brings you the real life of drugs in all US, also it shows you how illegal immigrants try to enter to PR in small boats and how they bring big loads of drugs on boats to PR. It's an amazing series and I recommend everyone t see it. It's the true and real life we are living everyday and what will happened to us if those people didn't catch what they are looking for on time. Thanks to CBP - OFO, BP, AM also ICE and Police Dept. from all states for their work.

I've studied, as an intelligence analyst, the dynamic of the counterterrorism risks posed by our porous 2,000 mile border with Mexico. This series is, in my opinion, one of the most valuable documentary resources focusing on the federal, state, and local response to the border issue. It has both high productions values and cinematrography (as one expects from Nat Geo), and very good inside information, well presented and worth watching if you are serious about this very controversial and critically important topic.

I had no idea this stuff went on at the border to the degree it does. I have lived in Florida, Texas, Arizona and California but man was I ever out of the loop. Why this isn't constant front page news is beyond me. Our entire southern border is still too porous and these border guards need more manpower. It breaks my heart to hear what most of the people trying to get into the country have gone through in their homelands. Few of us can understand or relate in the least. In their shoes, many of us would be swimming the Rio Grande also. I wish there was enough honesty and money in government to solve the economic problems in those countries. My heart wants to let every single one of them into this country of relative safety but I also know that would bring a boatload of problems also when it isn't done in a proper and orderly way. There is no immediate and easy answer.

True story. Congress should hire many folks coming back from the war to work down there. In stead of giving away (hilos) to other governments they should use them there. Well done by National Geo.
