5.0 out of 5 stars The best Hands on Geography lesson

We just received this game this week and my kids beg me to play it every day. It is a lot like Twister but with an educational twist. Already they are learning more than when we just colored maps. It includes major rivers, mountains, as well as oceans and contintents. Don't forget places like Niagra Falls and Stonehenge - they are included as well...

Hidden Hills Productions, Inc. is recalling its Maptangle World Edition Floor Mat Map Games. The orange paint on the floor mat maps contains excess levels of lead. Lead poisoning is a serious hazard to children and is associated with behavioral problems, learning disabilities, hearing problems and growth retardation.

The floor map game consists of a 6-foot by 5.5-foot vinyl Maptangle floor mat that has various multicolored geographic locations and landmarks painted on the floor mat and a set of 103 playing cards consisting of corresponding geographic locations and landmarks. The object of the game is for a team of players to locate, and place their feet on all of the landmarks and geographic locations. The game is age-graded for children 7 years and up. This recall pertains only to the floor mat, and does not include any other components of the game. Floor mat map games with manufacture date codes are not subject to this recall.

Educational, book, museum and specialty toy stores nationwide sold these games from February 2005 through June 2005 for about $25.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled game maps, and contact Hidden Hills Productions Inc. for information on returning the recalled maps and receiving a free replacement map or refund.

We left the game on our screen porch for about 5 or 6 weeks and then the smell was gone. I used it at a Geography Summer Camp and the kids loved it. Now my kids play it at home - they prefer it over Twister.

Wonderful idea but the map is so smelly i hate getting it out. Toxic chemical paint smell makes me nervous that the kids are playing on and around it. Still airing it out.

Highly recommend this product. A very fun way to get kids of all ages to learn their Geography. We put on Geography songs and jump all over the map to the correct spot. My kids are having great fun learning.

Our students love to play this game. They're learning the continents and are becoming familiar with the location of world landmarks. It's also been a great community builder. One of our newer students has had a difficult assimilating in the classroom and it has really helped him to become a part of the group.

The playing mat smells pretty toxic but we're not snorting with it or doing anything with it on a long term daily basis. It has gotten much better with time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lead Poisoning, November 1, 2011
This review is from: Map Tangle (Toy)
Map Tangle is on the recall list for high levels of lead and isn't being made anymore. It is illegal to sell this product and I am shocked that Amazon is allowing it to be sold on their shopping site. It is a shame because I would love to own it, but the company is no longer making it, and no one else is either. The only versions have lead in the orange paint and the object of the game is for your child to put their hands, feet, and body all over the map, so there isn't anyway to avoid it. The recall info is here. [...]
