Book Description

June 8, 2007
For Christians, the issues of illegal immigration and border security pose a "Crisis of Conscience." How can we follow the Golden Rule while enacting and enforcing laws and policies that address pragmatic concerns of national security in a post-9/11 world? Borders of Faith examines the intersection of Christianity and illegal immigration, illegitimate citizenship and border security. Undoubtedly, and especially since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Americans have struggled to find a balance between national security and civil rights-preserving individual freedoms, civil rights, privacy and dignity while, at the same time, allowing the Government to take necessary steps to keep America safe and secure in today's dangerous and violent world. As Christians, we are held to a higher standard. We must seek an additional "balance." How do we act in accordance with Christian faith in creating fair, efficient, and humane immigration laws and border security policies? Marc M. Harrold is a Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Mississippi School of Law. As a lawyer, he has represented clients and appeared before Immigration Courts in several states and the Board of Immigration Appeals on matters related to removal, asylum, torture, and human trafficking. A former City of Atlanta Police Officer, he continues to train law enforcement officers and attorneys nationally on matters of criminal procedure. He has been published numerous times in law journals, magazines, and newspapers and has been quoted by such diverse publications as the Wall Street Journal and Mother Jones magazine and is a frequent contributing columnist for the Clarion Ledger newspaper. He has previously authored a book of original poetry and a book of legal nonfiction related to the First Amendment. He is co-author of Mississippi Criminal Trial Practice. He lives in Union County, Mississippi.
