5.0 out of 5 stars Really Interesting Family and Social History Articles, September 20, 2010
By
This review is from: Borders Family History Society Magazine (Magazine)
This is a really good magazine produced by Borders Family History Society, which help people with their family history primarily in the Border counties (Berwickshire, Peeblesshire, Roxburghshire and Selkirkshire) of Scotland, as well as in adjacent counties of England and Scotland. They are a registered Scottish charity entirely staffed by volunteers, and their service is excellent.

They publish 3 times a year - normally in March, June, and October.

It's a 44 page A5 magazine with yellow covers, and always contains really interesting family and social history articles, as well as lists of new members and their interests. These articles are mostly about genealogy in their area, some are about social history in Scotland and northern England.

The June 2010 magazine contained:
Clan Johnstone, Recent additions to Sales List, Recording the Stones, New CDs, Deaths,
Old Gala House, Police and Criminal Records, Innerleithen Walkerburn and Traquair Research Centre, Diary of James Alexander Sligh aged 18, The Chisholm Highland connection, Scottish Marriage Index, Parish Web pages, Maxwellheugh Cottage, Longformacus, Forum Questions, New members.

Taking out a subscription also confers membership, which confers discounts on their monumental inscriptions / gravestone (tombstone) inscriptions, and Scotland's People vouchers.

They research and publish books on monumental inscriptions, local history, social history, poor law records - their list is growing all the time.
