5.0 out of 5 stars Never expected such talent!
I was a big fan of Roselyn Sanchez the actress, but when I discovered she was releasing a CD I was skeptical. I found out about her CD when she appeared on The Late Late Show and the sample they played was unimpressive. But...since I've been so happy with Shakira's Spanish CDs, I decided to explore further.

Right off the bat, I was hooked on the 2nd track,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Unespected!
Well, what can I say? When I first listened to Borinqueña I was waiting for a REALLY POP ALBUM with some tropical beats...You know, the same go-sure formula everyone is going with this days. Surprisingly, Borinqueña was nothing like what I was expecting...This album is a really sensual mixture with some World Music feel to it...It's got a really mellow vibe...

Right off the bat, I was hooked on the 2nd track, "Amor Amor". Since the CD ends with 2 remixes of this hypnotic song, it's clear I'm not the only one who's addicted to it. Soon I realized that the sample played on The Late Late Show was "Caricias". This song is equally as addictive and the melody consistently haunted me throughout my day.

It's been almost a year since I put this album in my CD changer and it's never come out. Every song on this album deserves it's spot on the CD and as a whole, the album successfully transports you to that happy place where the weather is perfect, the drinks flow and Roselyn releases you from the ties that bind.

I don't speak much Spanish and I probably understand only about 50% of the lyrics. But the voice and the music trascend that boundary. I couldn't be happier with this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars "BRAVO" FOR ROSELYN!!!, October 7, 2003
This review is from: Borinquena (Audio CD)
I think this is one of the best CD's in 2003. Roselyn Sanchez will soon be a DIVA. My favorite track are "Amor Amor", "Noche De Verano", "Suavecito" and "Olas Y Arenas". If you like latin music I also recomend "Jessica Cristina" by Jessica Cristina, "Michael Stuart" by Michael Stuart and "Almas Del Silencio" by Ricky Martin.

Well, what can I say? When I first listened to Borinqueña I was waiting for a REALLY POP ALBUM with some tropical beats...You know, the same go-sure formula everyone is going with this days. Surprisingly, Borinqueña was nothing like what I was expecting...This album is a really sensual mixture with some World Music feel to it...It's got a really mellow vibe with a lot of interesting fusions. First single, Amor Amor (with Grammy nominee rapper Tego Calderon) is the stand out of the album. It mixes hip hop, flamenco and some caribbean beats. The first time you listen to it, it will be ok. After three times, you'll be totally in love with the song. Noche de Verano is a tropical duet with "sonero" Victor Manuel, wich mixes salsa and bachata;a good song! The other tracks go with the same mellow vibe that, combined with Roselyn's brethy vocals, make a really sensual mix. Think of Sade being raised in the Caribbean!Borinqueña It's a good start, but not quite an awesome piece! But if we are talking about creativity, Roselyn and partner producer Roy Tavare deserve some credit! You'll like this one...

Roselyn Sanchez is an extremely beautiful and talented actress that for the life of me I can't seem to understand why she takes a back seat to J.Lo...in anything! Her voice is simply beautiful. My wife accused me of buying this CD simply because it was Roselyn's. She says I'd like anything "Roselyn". True - but of all the 100's of latin CD's we own this is the only one both my wife and daughter sing the lyrics too on a regular basis! Amor Amor Amor....Looking forward to her next CD..(all of us!)

3.0 out of 5 stars Auspicious Beginning!, March 8, 2004
This review is from: Borinquena (Audio CD)
This is a suprise for me.This was kind of a good album i can say.I bought this album not really kno wing what i was getting into all i knew was that roselyn is an actress and a very sexual kind of person and that is the appeal that comes forth with this album.I loved her in boat trip which made me want this album. This album not your ordinary pretty face girl album. This album has some credibility to it.Her low sexy voice compliments the sexy lyrics. Her flavor is so diiferent. There is your pop song not songs on this album she has some salsa, bablada mostly which are really good.HIghlights of thi salbum are Amor Amor(salsa version)Suavecito, noche de verano and a few others i recommend this album to any fans of mollified latin music and she indeed in a facile way captures a sade mood.GO Roselyn

WOW!...What a change..going from actress(Chasing Papi, Rush Hour 2,& Boat Trip) to singer. She has proven herself here as a vocalist and made a spectacular debut album.I listen to this everyday and never get bored with it. It has 3 versions of the first single "Amor, Amor"-original, salsa and a suprise hidden 3rd club version. I would tell everyone to give this a listen and you won't be let down. She is a diva in the making.....Watch out Thalia, Paulina and Shakira, Roselyn is here and is on the verge of international sucess and greatness!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars nice and relaxing.., March 18, 2006
This review is from: Borinquena (Audio CD)
I bought the CD because of one song that I heard on TV, and it turned out to be nice and relaxing. I took it to the office and my co-workers liked it as well. Overall the music is nice and I rate the CD a 4.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a first album!, December 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Borinquena (Audio CD)
This was Roselyn Sanchez's first album and had some great beats, however, it definitely was not the best Latin album in my collection. I was assuming that she would have more authentic Latin beats on the album, yet she seems to stray more towards pop music. Her music is very similar to Ricky Martin's.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, June 7, 2004

I am not sure what went wrong here, but the CD is not good. All the songs sound the same! She sings in only one single note, which just adds to the monotony, in a breathy voice that, rather than sounding sexy, which is what I think she was trying to do, she sounds silly. I think she can do much better.
