I admit I'm a Borland devotee, having used their development products for the past ten years. And while I don't think the visual basic IDE's as bad as some people do (especially the latest version), I'd have to say Borland C++ gives you a versatility VC ++ can't touch. Borland's interface is brilliant for GUIs - you just drag your components onto a form, and then alter/optimise the code you need to. Additionally, the GUIs it creates are platform-independent, so all you have to do is recompile to get your program working on another platform. The compiler itself is incredibly fast - this is definitely the best RAD environment available for C++, and I'd say the tool of choice for any serious professional developer. (Having said all this, Borland's eagerly awaited C++ Builder 2006 is now available, although not yet via Amazon.)

This is one of the best programming anvironment I've ever used. If you like c++ and want all windows, buttons, frames, databases elements ready to use this is just for you. In the box Windows and Linux (kylix ) version is included. I have not run linux version yet. I did a very large program to analyses internet discission for my MC using it!

for building C++ programs in Windows, this is the best route for fast program development in a visual IDE.

I was looking forward to using Borland again. I remember when they led the industry with their innovative IDE concepts. Well they haven't changed much since then. Of the three IDE platforms that I have used (Qt, Microsoft's Visual C++.net and Borland C++ Builder and VI) this comes in second to last. Come on Borland get back into the saddle. There are other annoying factors as well. Rebuilding each and every time I choose to run in debug, the depth of the class architecture, not to mention what has already been said. Sorry Borland... I was really hoping to say something quite different.

The idea was great.

Instead of doing RAD in VB, do RAD using C++ !!

Unfortunately, the execution is deeply flawed.

Based on Borlands Pascal / Delphi product, it uses many of the Pascal components that ship with Delphi.

It therefore suffers from irritating Pascalisms.

Add to this an unstable and buggy IDE
( just read the complaints
on Borlands own c++builder forums ) and a product that is hamstrung by a small and poorly funded development team,
and you have a tragically and deeply flawed implementation of an
alternative to VB.

To make matters worse, Borland have effectively increased the
price. Many features have been shifted into the Enterprise edition.

Borland seem to have effectively abandoned this product in favour
of Delphi ( cash cow ) and JBuilder ( a strong contender in the Java RAD field )

Try this if you like.
( Borland have a download able trial somehere on their vast and
poorly organised site )

Then weep for what might have been and move on to Visual Studio .NET

I am a computer guru at the age of 13 and I wanted to start writing my own programs and so i got the Borland C++ Builder 6 Profesional
by Borland International and it was very easy and simple to use, but for some parts i had to order the books for c++ programming. So if you want to learn to program buy this product and the programming books for c++.
