A good reference,
By A Customer
This review is from: Borland C++: The Complete Reference (Complete Reference Series) (Paperback)
I like this book because it is a good REFERENCE. It doesn't teach, but allows you to look something up, read the basics and look at a good example. I should correct myself on that "doesn't teach" part. I have learned a good deal from this book because everytime I look something up, I usually learn something else about a related or unrelated topic. I feel that the book is a good addition to my to my C++ brain, and it gathers medium dust.

A Run Time Library Reference,
By Jackson (Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Borland C++: The Complete Reference (Complete Reference Series) (Paperback)
When you buy a compiler nowdays, you don't get as much documentation as in the "old days". This is offset by the much lower prices and greater performance of modern compliers. This book provides a run time library reference for Borland, and I consider it a bargain for the price. I browse this in my spare time, and find out what functional utilities come with the complier, and their syntax. I don't know of a quicker or cheaper way to gain this information.

A good reference book for Borland C++,
This review is from: Borland C++: The Complete Reference (Complete Reference Series) (Paperback)
If you have ever wondered what those crytic lines in the BC5 header files really do, then this book will most definitely help you figure it out. A definite must-have for those who compile with Borland.

This review is from: Borland C++: The Complete Reference (Complete Reference Series) (Paperback)
It is thorough and gives good examples to help you understand what is being explained. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner, intermediate, or expert, you are bound to learn something new and useful. This book makes sure that you know everything that there is to know about C/C++.

Garbage,
By A Customer
This review is from: Borland C++: The Complete Reference (Complete Reference Series) (Paperback)
After I played a quick game of ``spot the error'' on this book, it immediately Schildt struck me that Schildt knows even less about C++ than about C.Do yourself a favor and buy a copy of _The C++ Programming Language_ instead. This is a very good book, written by Bjarne Stroustrup---you know, the fellow that actually *invented* C++. Doh! Why would you buy some claptrap from a someone with long-standing history of cranking out awful books when you can have the genuine item?

Simple Win95, Java, Too in Depth,
By A Customer
This review is from: Borland C++: The Complete Reference (Complete Reference Series) (Paperback)
This book tries to cover C, C++, Win95, The Borland environment and Java. IN ONE BOOK!!! This can of course not be done. The C and C++ parts are good indeed, except that Herbert has a tendensy of going to much in depth when talking about a function, it usually gets boring. The desciption of the BC++ environment is just as far as typing in dialogs and stuff, something which a programmer should be able to do. The Win95 part doesn't get into talking about why things are as they are, it's just create a button and write some text, the Petzold surpasses this piece of junk-write by a factor of 1000. The Java primer is just something Herbert put together to get some extra attention, you hardly learn to write text on the screen. Maybe i'm being a bit too hard, but this book shouldn't be bought unless you want to bore youself to death. Anyway isn't everyone using MSVC++ now ?
