The design makes this a love it or hate it product,
This review is from: Bormioli Rocco Frigoverre 78 Ounce Glass Pitcher With Frosted Lid
I've given the pitcher four stars because it meets my needs as far as capacity, durability and appearance. It would have gotten five stars if the instructions gave clear directions on how to use the lid and if the handle, as other reviewers have pointed out - wasn't so close to the pitcher, making it awkward to pour. Contrary to some reviewer's comments, I haven't had any problem with spillage when beverages are poured.
I purchased the pitcher even though there were some very critical reviewer comments about the lid. At the time, I discounted them, figuring the reviewer's weren't following instructions. After spending an hour or more fruitlessly trying to get the lid to work, I was angry and frustrated. The next day, I took the lid apart and studied how the lid/pitcher seal was supposed to be made, and that was when I discovered, more or less by accident, the secret to making the lid work. Since then the lid has worked just fine (by the way, the lid must be removed prior to pouring). Here's the technique: With the center piece screwed into the outer piece and in the open position (that is, the center piece bar is resting against the "open" tab on the top of the outer piece), pull the rubber ring over the bottom edge ridge so it rides in the groove formed where the ridge meets the bottom of the outer piece. The next step is crucial (yet isn't described in the instructions - an unforgivable omission given the complaints about the lid failing to seal properly). Holding the outer piece of the lid by its serrated edge, place the lid on to the top of the pitcher so the rubber ring is in full contact with the top of the pitcher rim, then rotate it clockwise while gently but firmly pushing down on it until the bottom of the outer lid piece is in complete contact with the pitcher's rim. The rubber ring is now deep enough into the pitcher to form a tight seal with the side of the pitcher when the center is rotated clockwise a half turn to the closed position (to the "closed" tab), causing the rubber ring to expand outward and create a strong seal. You'll find that at room temperature, the rubber ring will encounter some resistance as it is pushed into position prior to closing; however, when cold (after sitting in the refrigerator) there is no resistance. You'll be amazed at how easy the lid works when the ring and glass are cold.

Great little pitcher!,

When my pitcher arrived, it did seem smaller than what I anticipated. However, I have had no problems with spilling, and its smaller size is actually what I now LOVE about it. It hardly takes up any refrigerator space - yet holds 2 quarts and then some. You do have to remove the lid for pouring and mixing, but I have had no problems when making instant iced tea and shaking it a bit to mix. You can turn the middle part of the lid to loosen or tighten it. I'm very happy with this pitcher!

These are the bomb. Don't sweat the perceived small handle unless u have banana hands.,
This review is from: Frigoverre Glass Pitcher
These pitchers are truly great. I got two of them. They're rugged enough to knock them around a little bit (don't go overboard). The O-ring design really does make them airtight (one adjustment - if your fridge is super cold the rubber shrinks a little and u need to re-tighten to make the seal 100% as opposed to 90%).
And the O-ring twisty thing is NOT difficult as some reviewers have said. Unless you're a moron it's pretty self-explanatory. And I will say this about the size of the handles and their proximity to the body of the pitcher: I have medium to large hands for an average sized man and I have no trouble whatsoever. What's more, if the handles were much further out they'd be more of a break risk and the things wouldn't fit so nicely in your fridge. It'd change the area used by an extra inch if u took them out an inch and if your fridge is as packed as mine sometimes is then u need that space. If you're a dude who is much bigger than 6'2" and have meaty hands well then it's possible you'll have to be more careful than your woman when you pour the juice. Woopity doo. It's a small price to pay for airtight glass in your fridge. I filter my own water with a carbon faucet attachment and then refrigerate - my water comes out tasting perfect - the indian food doesn't claim it, and it doesn't have that plastic taste that even the thickest of plastic imparts. In short, these are great pitchers.

I bought this pitcher at William & Sonoma because it was glass and had a top. I wanted to be able to shake up lemonade before pouring. The top (at least on the one they sold at William & Sonoma) does not do a good job of keeping in liquid. What's worse, the pitcher's tiny spout makes it very difficult to pour without spilling. It's hard to believe that a simple pitcher could fall so short of my expectations, but this one has done just that.

I got this pitcher to store filtered water at room temp for mixing with baby formula and have been very satisfied with it. Other reviews are critical that it does not pour well but if you read the instructions, you'll see the lid makes a super-tight hermetic seal, so it's not supposed to be able to pour lidded. And again, with the instructions, you can get an airtight seal. Nice design and I love that I can clean it in the dishwasher.

Clearing Up the Mysteries of These Pitchers,
This review is from: Bormioli Rocco Frigoverre 78 Ounce Glass Pitcher With Frosted Lid
These pitchers are great. I bought one of them and two others (Luminarc Quadro 2-Liter Glass Pitcher with Lid and the Luminarc Quadro 1-1/2-Quart (57-1/4-Ounce) Pitcher), to compare. Before getting to the comparison, I want to address some ostensible problems with the Bormioli that other reviewers have raised:
1. "The lid is loose, or if I do get it partly sealed, it leaks." The lid seals tightly and doesn't leak. The insert that comes in the pitcher shows how to do it, but it's in tiny type and requires a magnifying glass. Here's how: a. Hold the outer ring with one hand and, with the other hand, turn the handle all the way *counterclockwise.* (Even halfway will do it, but these instructions are designed to be foolproof.) b. Insert lid in pitcher. c. Hold the outer ring with one hand and, with the other hand, turn the handle all the way *clockwise* (about 3/4 of a turn; don't try to force it any farther or you'll break it). The lid is now sealed tight, and nothing will leak from the spout. The inner ring is eccentric, like a cam--not perfectly round--so that when you turn it clockwise, the bulge presses against the outer ring and seals it. 2. "Even with the lid off, the pitcher spills when I pour from it." Also very simple: don't fill it all the way to the top. If you fill it only to the shoulder, or top of the handle, and tip it fully when pouring (rather than just tilting it slightly), you'll never spill a drop. 3. "The handle is too close to the body." Admittedly, it's a little closer than one would like (probably for strength), and I was concerned about that when I ordered it, but it turns out not to be a major inconvenience. It just means that if you have big hands, you hold the handle with your fingers instead of your palm. Now, the comparison: The 1-1/2-Quart pitcher we can dispose of immediately--first, because it doesn't hold as much as the other two, and second, because it doesn't have a lid. The Bormioli pitcher is made of thick glass and is short and squat, so it's very stable but won't fit in a refrigerator door, if that's what you need. The Luminarc will, if the space above the shelf is high enough. The Luminarc has handgrips molded into the glass, which makes it a more awkward pour and doesn't provide the grip that the handle on the Bormioli offers. What concerned me was that if I poured from a full pitcher with wet or oily hands, the Luminarc could slip out of my grasp. Other reviews have mentioned that the Luminarc was made of thin glass that broke in transit or shortly after arrival. I can't confirm the glass thickness--although I had one here, I didn't even remove the bubble wrap after determining that the handgrips made it inconvenient. I found the Bormioli easily the best for my purposes and ordered three more.

Best glass storage pitcher of the few available.,
By
This review is from: Frigoverre Glass Pitcher
I bought this pitcher because my family recently started to make our own soy milk and we wanted containers that were heat-tolerant and plastic-free (so we could sterilize and pour hot liquid in them) and airtight (so we could store it in small batches where unopened bottles would last longer).
So far, this pitcher has met my expectations nearly perfectly. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: 1. Glass jar that can handle most normal heat stresses. The exact type of glass isn't advertised, and can be exposed to temps from freezing to boiling liquids--not good for the oven though (not sure why anyone would put it there, but...). 2. Seals airtight. I usually seal the lid before the milk is cooled completely so that it'll get a bit of a vacuum seal going on. It's not recommended you do this with really hot liquids though (so says the advice from the directions). 3. Sturdy handle. Unlike my Chemex coffee maker, I have no worries about this handle snapping off. 4. Pours well, especially when compared to many of the TetraPaks soymilk often comes in. 5. Can shake pitcher without leakage (see caveat in cons). Cons: 1. Lid sealing gasket isn't as robust as I'd like. It seems like it may wear out eventually and fail to seal. Also, while it does seal airtight, it does not grip well enough to stay on by itself if you shake the pitcher. 2. Must hold lid when shaking (or you'll have leakage...or the lid will just pop out) 3. The lid is plastic (this is a con for the BPA paranoid, but technically whatever's in the pitcher should never contact the lid which is okay for me. 4. Can't pour without removing the lid (not really a con if you primarily consider it a storage pitcher as opposed to a serving pitcher)

This review is from: Frigoverre Glass Beverage Pitcher / Jug with Hermetic Frosted Lid. 1 Litre
These pitchers are great for all things...juice, sauces, dressings, salsa. They easily seal to keep things fresh, and save TONS of space with the tall skinny shape. I use them for my homemade salsa, and the spout makes for easy pouring. I also love the heavy weight glass! These are great in all sizes! A TRUE MUST HAVE!

I love this pitcher,

I love this pitcher! I recently decided that I was finished with plastic storage containers. I was concerned with how much plastic may have been leaching into my orange juice? So I searched for a glass pitcher that would fit into my refrig and cleanup easily either in the dishwasher or sink. When I got it in the mail I read the directions....but I don't remember reading about how the cover can totally be taken apart for cleaning. There is a narrow plastic piece that snaps on the top of the cover and holds it together. When I was cleaning it in the sink for the first time, I somehow unsnapped it and I thought I had broken the cover. What a delight to discover it wasn't broken the cover totally disassembles so you can clean it with ease. I am going to buy another one for my RV.
Some have said that the handle is small....yes it is a little tight to the bottle but I don't have large hands so it's not a problem for me. Awesome product! Highly recommended.

These are great! The pitcher is made of durable thick glass, and the lid is amazingly airtight. I use mine for storing home-made soy milk which is scalding hot after it comes out of the machine, and because this is glass, I can pour it right in and not worry about chemicals being leached into my fresh soy milk (you do have to be careful with hot liquids, the seal should not be tightened until the liquid cools or the lid could pop off). The seal in the lid is easy to use but does require two hands. Everything is dishwasher safe (lid and seal on the top shelf). I have not found the handle to be difficult to hold and pouring from any glass spout will drip a little, both of these "problems" others have reviewed I have not been bothered by. If you want glass storage for liquids, these are great, get one in each size...I love mine!!
