Great for Children up to 7 years old,

I bought this CD for my daughter for her second birthday. She loves the music! She wants to take it each week for 'show n tell.' Even I don't mind listening to the music, and it sure beats the Barney songs.I found that her cousins, ages 5 - 9 years old, were able to enjoy this album as well.

Typically inventive Sesame Street production,
By
This review is from: Born to Add (Audio CD)
Writer/producer Christopher Cerf (son of humorist Bennett Cerf) put together this album full of humorous and educational songs. A few are take-offs of well-known hits (e.g., "Born to Add" and "(I Can't No) Co-operation"), while others are original. All display a wonderful sense of whimsy while simultaneously teaching valuable lessons about math, health and interpersonal relationships. The songs and productions are good enough that parents won't tire of this when their children play it 20 times in a row. A classic among the Sesame Street LPs. Too bad all children's entertainment isn't this entertaining!

This album is for adults, too!,

I bought this LP for my son 16 years ago, and loved it as much as he did. Some of the songs are direct take-offs from songs ("Born To Add," "Letter B" -- the latter from the Beatles, of course), and some are style copies. They are hilarious. I recommend this collection of fun songs very highly! I am purchasing 2 more copies, one for me, and one for my sister, who has an infant and an 18-month-old. Get your kids rockin'!

I don't know what some of these reviewers are talking about -- this album is fabulous! Perhaps they don't like it as parents...I'm not sure. But I was listening to this album when it was only an LP, and today, almost twenty years later, I can still groove to it. It's a very special part of my childhood memories, and it's ridiculously fun. In fact, I'm delighted to find it on CD because now I can replace our record, which is really scratched up after so much use.

I disagree with the last review. I think it is wrong to enjoy music without paying for it. If you teach special education preschool or have preschool children, these songs just can't be surpassed for teaching counting and beginning addition. My kids especially love the Octopus Blues which is a counting song.

Cookie Monster = SEX MACHINE,
This review is from: Born to Add (Audio CD)
"Me Going to Much You, Munch You, Munch You" by Cookie Monster may be one of the finest pieces of music ever recorded. The opening bass line alone makes this song worth the price of admission ... but the following melange of wah-wah guitar, piano tinkling and, of course, that crumbly croon will have you on the floor. Certainly a song for the ages. Isaac Hayes? Barry White? Suckers. My man Cookie is where it's at. Your macaroons will be swooning before the tune hits the halfway mark. BUY THIS.

On a sudden nostalgia spree I was perusing the "Sesame Street" CDs and happened upon "Born to Add" so of course I HAD to listen to the soundclip. When I was a kid, Born to Add was always my favorite "Sesame St." song (and I think it had a major psychological impact on the fact that I became a Springsteen nut in my later years!), and for some reason, years upon years after ever watching Sesame St, the song (and the image of the leather-clad muppet who was, I believe, green with a purple nose and dancing in an alley with a curly-haired female muppet which was perhaps supposed to be Bruce's then-wife Julieanne Phillips????) has always stuck in my heart. But all I can say is, hearing it again was absolutely incredible! I LOVE what an endearing parody of Bruce it is, and all I can say is: If you are a Bruce fan, buy this for your little kid!!! Also, the other songs on this (Cereal Girl, Barn in the USA, I Can't Get No Co-Operation, Honk around the Clock (my other childhood fave!) etc.) are great and memory-filled, too! I can't wait til I have kids someday, so I can enjoy the guilty pleasure of this Sesame St. CD! :)

This CD is for any parent who has had to endure a sickening-sweet kid's CD that the child insists on playing over and over on a road trip. "Born to Add" is based on classic hit songs like "Born to Run."
The songs are funny and easy for adults to listen to yet the kids will love them and actually learn something.

We bought this for my kids when it was first released on cassette tape many years ago and I loved the way the Henson creators paid homage to classic rock songs. I was delighted to see it was available on CD, and although I'm granny age now I still think it's as clever as it ever was. It's something just about anyone will enjoy listening to.
