I've been looking for the song Peace of Mind, by Rare Bird, for years on CD. This is one of my all time favorite songs, and a song which was once on legendary St. Louis Radio Station KSHE 95 Klassics list. But it has not been available for years. I don't know why. Peace of Mind, is, IMHO, a fantastic song, good enough to be listed with the all time classic, and on par with anything by the Beatles, Stones, Who, etc. The 60's and 70's had so many awesome groups, that Rare Bird somehow fell through the cracks, and never really hit it big before they broke up. But they are probably better then 99% of the groups nowadays.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic i have looking for on CD for ages....., June 24, 2003

Rare Bird were one of those underated bands of the 70's who never really got out of the 'cult band' position. This album shows the guys for what they were....superb writers of quality 'soft rock' with great catch lines in the songs. I have this on vinyl, although it is well worn after repeated plays down through the years - and i have been searching for this on CD for quite some time. An expensive import but worth every cent if only for the stunning track 'Redman' - this really is a top quality song with excellent lyrics. Treat yourself to a great, but lost and forgotton, album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare Quality, July 17, 2004

A wonderfull blend of keyboard lead rythym with warm rough vocals. The harmonies are perfect and once you start to listen you will not touch the skip or off switch. It is a joy to listen to something of such rare quality after a long long thirty years. This is an album that demands to be listened to today which could easily "hold it's own" without the support of any nostalgia.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rediscovery, April 7, 2010

Checking to see whether Somebody's Watching was still available, I rediscovered Born Again, mislaid and forgotten years ago, and found I liked it even better now than before. Unlike many 70s bands, Rare Bird stands the test of time, and I predict a renaissance. Best of all is Epic Forest, definitely due for its turn in the sun.

I have been looking for this album since the first time I heard "Peace of Mind". That was the main reason for getting this and after listening to the rest of it, I discovered that the rest is just as good. I will be looking into more of Rare Bird's albums soon.

I guess St. Louis was the only city in the US that played this album. I've been looking for Piece of Mind for a long time (no pun intended). I can't wait till my CD arrives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare and under-rated album, January 10, 2011

Wow, after 30 years this gem appears on CD, and it floored me then and floors me now. This light prog group had some prior hits and misses, but on this album almost every cut is a keeper. The album flows nicely and though no one song stands out, after about 4 songs you will be appreciative of their musicianship and vocals. If you like your music to sound fresh and spirited then grab this lost classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most haunting songs..., May 6, 2010
This review is from: Born Again (Audio CD)
Peace of Mind was one of the best songs from the 70s. Sometimes I wonder if you had to be from St. Louis (KSHE listeners, you know who you are) to hear this piece of magic.
I did find an mp3 of this way back before the suits against Napster began. It's one of my treasures and I have it backed up all over the place so I never lose it again. "You will find peace of mind...."

5.0 out of 5 stars such a perfect sound, March 25, 2009

Rare Bird is truly a band more people need to experience.

If you happen to find vocal melodies that focus on being VERY pretty, melodic, and memorable, this Born Again album is the right formula you're looking for.

While many of the vocal melodies resemble Crosby, Stills and Nash (specifically Stephen Stills) Rare Bird is in NO way a rip-off of that legendary band.

Or maybe Paul Simon would be a better comparison, since "Last Tango in Beaulah" sounds a little like Paul Simon.

None of that really matters though, because in the end, what matters is the quality of the songwriting, and this album is chock full of completely wonderful songs, from start to finish.

Born Again just captures those great 70's vibes in abundance. An album you must check out. Perhaps the only thing that prevented this album from gaining more success is the fact there were too many fantastic artists in the 70's, and there just wasn't any more room for these guys.
