JUST A GLIMPSE OF THE FACE OF GOD,
By "heirguitar_2000" (Boston) - See all my reviews

The title of this track says it all! "Face of God" (the fourth song on this CD) has Platinum written all over it. My husband and I cant get the lyrics out of our head. This album has a mix of Petty/Hendrix old rock throughout.Songs like "Salvation" and "Camouflage of Righteousness" are great songs as well. Kind'a bonus tracks considering "Face of God" is worth the purchase itself. Buy this CD before you hear it on the grammys. I'm sure you'll hear tracks on the Sopranos as well. Love this album!

Load Guitars,
By A Customer
This review is from: Born Again Savage (Audio CD)
For long time followers of Little Steven you won't be surprised that this album has very load guitars. It is recorded in the power trio format - bass, drums and guitar. The band is a top notch band consisting of Little Steve, Jason Bonham and Adam Clayton of U2 on bass. What is surprising, if not a bit disappointing, is that in the past, Little Steve, even when rocking hard, always had a soulful bent to the music. He is one of the great contemporary R&B/Soul writers and arrangers we have. This album does not showcase those abilities. The music is hard and jarring at times. With no keyboards or even background vocals to soften the edges, this album forces you to listen to the words and the riffs - of which there are plenty. Overall, not as musically varied as he is capable of. Compared to his other efforts, this doesn't quite measure up. However, let it be said that if he were a young buck putting this album out early in a career without his past musical reference points, this would find it's way onto hard rock play lists of stations everywhere and we would be excited about this new young talent. The album rocks!

POWERED,
By A Customer

Steven has outdone himself on his first solo album in ten years. His guitar work is hard driving and powered by Jason Bonham's drums. The horns aren't there, but between the rocking music and and wrenching lyrics, they aren't missed. This is a must have for Little Steven and pure rock fans.

Guitars, Guitars!,
By bill winter (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews

Whoa! When Steven pays homage he means it! Little Steven has lashed out at his public with some straight ahead "Rock 'n Roll". Remember that stuff? Power trio, great lyrics, ausome riffs, driving beat? In this sample of America's greatest idiom Steven doffs his babushka to everyone from Pink Floyd to the Kinks (there are some american influences as well!) and manages to maintain his high standard for lyrical content. If you like your Rock with lots of guitar, you'll have a blast catching all the subtle, and not so subtle expressions of Stevens gratitude towards some of the greatest guitarists of the 60's.

A totally rocking album!,

I first heard this album at a friend's party, and had to have it, immediately! Bought it the next morning. I've been a fan of his music for ages, and this album doesn't disappoint. I believe "Born Again Savage" - his fifth album - is the most aggressively rocking album Little Steven has made. The sounds of his youth - British rock, with some Dylan and punk mixed in, is obvious. "Born Again Savage" was the last in a series of sociopolitical projects he conceived in the '80's, with the themes being: the individual, the family, government, economics, and religion. It is perfect with Jason Bonham on drums, and with U2's Adam Clayton on bass. Just too bad he has no plans to tour and promote the album!

100% Pure Rock,
By A Customer
This review is from: Born Again Savage (Audio CD)
This is a great, pure rock record - not weighed down by keyboards or horns like some of Steven's old stuff. His best songwriting ever - especially "Face Of God" - without question the best song I've heard over the last year. "Salvation" is getting some good radio play here - I hope that spreads the word. Highly recommended.

A Powerful Rocker - Steven's best,
By A Customer
This review is from: Born Again Savage (Audio CD)
I think that this is by far Steven's best record - the songs stand out in a stripped down three-piece power trio arragement. In particular, "Salvation" "Face Of God" and "St.Francis" are simply excellent songs, the latter two Dylanesque sound paintings which bear numerous repeated listenings. With this great CD, his touring with the rekindled E Street Band, and his killer support role on "The Sopranos" - Steven is indeed a Renaissance Man.

Born Again Savage, Born Again Rock!,
By
This review is from: Born Again Savage (Audio CD)
Little Steven's previous solo album was a disappointing affair and marked a change in musical direction, concentrating on synthesizer generated music, perhaps that is why it was only released in Europe. However, Born Again Savage is an entirely different beast. Yes, it is still motivated by strong social and political injustices, but it rocks! A major achievement in the era of sanitised music is to stick to the fundamentals of what rock is all about, it is raw, refreshing, passionate, a great album. Little Steven is ably supported on the album by Adam Clayton on bass and Jason Bonham on drums, you've got to be good to attract that kind of support and the album is quite simply the best Little Steven has done. So buy it..........

After just seeing Steven with Springsteen and then hearing this incredible album, I cast my vote for the old guys as the best rockers..."Born Again Savage" is solid all the way through, "Face Of God" and "St. Francis" literally gave me chills. The guitar/bass combo on Adam Clayton and Jason Bonham doesnt hurt either. Six stars, five is not enough..

What a selling point!,

I haven't even got the CD yet but what a testiment to Little Steven that after hearing "Salvation" twice, I HAD to have it! I never did that before with any artist, and I didn't even consider myself a fan! I ordered it from Amazon yesterday and can't wait to get it. Finally, somebody rocks again. You can KEEP today's wimpy bands like Sugar Ray! Where did our rock go? It's right here, thanks Little Steven.
