Truely awesome CD from a future "Great" of the Blues,
By A Customer
This review is from: Born to Be Blue (Audio CD)
Eugene Bridges got his initial inspiration and the 'Hideaway' from his father Othineil Bridges - aka Hideaway Slim. As you listen to this superb CD you will also catch nuances of the blues greats that have further influenced Eugene. Sam Cooke on 'Good Times', 'A change is gonna come' and 'If you don't wanna love me' plus B.B. King on 'Good thang', 'Aching Heart', and 'Born to be blue' the title track. Eugene wrote this last song as a letter to B.B. King to tell him how he had influenced his life. Truth is that Eugene is now his own man, and while keen to keep alive their sound, he has so, so much to offer that is pure Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges. Many blues fans will remember Eugene as heading Big Joe Turner's Memphis Blues Caravan on guitar and vocals, he has now moved on to form his own band and this is the result. Live and on disc, Eugene exudes his quality and maturity with brilliant guitar licks and the strength of his vocals. Having had the pleasure of listening to and meeting this man at a gig, I can also tell you that the emotion that he puts into his music is from the heart. Audiences are captured by the charisma of the man as he passes his musical message to us fortunate listeners. If you can't get to see Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges - buy this CD. If you can get to see Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges - still buy this CD. To use the words of the last song on the CD - "It's been a long time coming but I know a change gonna come, oh yes it is". The change has come in the shape of Eugene 'Hidewaway' Bridges.
