"Born to Bite" is a sensual supernatural anthology featuring stories from talented authors Hannah Howell, Diana Cosby, and Erica Ridley. Early 1500's Scotland is the setting for Hannah Howell's "Dark Secret". Murdina Dunbar, homeless and without family, travels far to find her aunt and uncle. Hoping to meet up with some cousins too, she finds her aunt and uncle have passed away, and all her hopes for a family reunion are buried along with them in a cold, windy graveyard. With nowhere else to turn, Murdina accepts a position as a maid in the local keep, working hard and trying to find out about her cousin Adeline. Chosen to be the personal maid for the handsome and mysterious Sir Baldwin, Murdina finds herself irresistibly drawn to the darkly appealing nobleman. Sir Baldwin is actually Gillanders MacNachton, staying at the keep in hopes of finding out who murdered a member of his clan. Gillanders is no mere mortal, and Murdina has a secret of her own: she can read the thoughts of others. Realizing Murdina is his fated mate, he wonders if she will accept his true nature. Others do not wish for a happy ending for these two, and much mayhem is about in the keep. Gillanders and Murdina are more connected than they could have imagined, and it is a perilous bond indeed. Medieval Scotland is the era for Diana Cosby's "Highland Vampire". Drawn to a ceremonial stone circle by a compelling voice invading her mind, Rowan Campbell discovers a dying warrior. Aedan MacGregor, Laird of the Highland Vampire Coven, has been betrayed and left to burn in the searing rays of the rising sun. Unable to resist his allure, Rowan leads Aedan to the safety and darkness of a cave, and later allows him to drink a few drops of her blood to restore his strength.Read more ›

The first story was interesting. the phonetic use of the Scottish accent got "verra" annoying after a while. I am not a fan, but it may not bother you. It could be a good series, but I am not all that inspired to find out. It kind of reminded me of Christine Feehan's work. The second story moved ridiculously fast. Way to much information and not enough development of characters. But at least the Scottish accent was toned down. I don't see myself reading anything from this author. And last but in no way least, the third story is my favorite. It takes place in England so although our vampire is technically Scottish there are no Brogues to speak of. Quick, witty, and silly this is definitely a series I can see myself getting into. It had a definite Alexia Tarabotti feel to it, and since Gail Carriger has ended that series this may just be able to fill that hole for me.

Rowan Campbell had been labeled a witch by those who only believed what they wanted. Rowan was told that vampires were mythical until the day she saved Aedan MacGregor, Laird of the Highland Vampire Coven from imminent death.

Aedan believes Rowan to be his mate regardless that she is human and he is determined to protect and save her. There is nothing simple and uncomplicated about their relationship and the longer they are together the more issues arise. Everything stands in the way of their love including the vampire and Fey community of which Rowan it seems belongs.

Rowan craves Aedan's love and he in return knows his existence is futile without her. However, those out to stop the relationship and their entire known life will not want stop hunting until they are destroyed. But is the enemy from the outside or could it be from within?

Diana Cosby writes a colorful, romantic, and action packed story. Ms Cosby leaves the reader with the feeling of overwhelming literary satisfaction.

"Never Been Bitten" by Erica Riley. In 1830 England, Lydia Breckenridge hires Ellie Ramsey to prove that Martainn "Cain" Macane is a vampire. They dance and he goes to take a nip, but she bites him instead. Cain is shocked by her action and more so when she vanishes with no one remembering seeing her except Cain.

"Dark Secret" by Hannah Howell. In 1514, orphaned Murdina Dunbar learns she has a cousin Adeline who took a bairn and fled into the hills to be with the MacNachton clan. However, she finds no new clues so she stops at Dunnantinny Keep to earn money as a maid and seek new information. Laird Sir Ranald Dumfries directs Murdina to spy on guest Sir Gillanders Baldwin who he thinks is a MacNachton demon. Unable to resist Gillanders kisses her and believes she is his mate as he stalks Ranald for killing his cousin

"Highland Moon" by Diana Cosby. In 1297, healer Rowan Campbell flees from men calling her a witch. She helps a man trapped inside of a stone circle. Aedan MacGregor says he is a poisoned vampire who needs to drink her blood, which she reluctantly allows. Tasting the blood, he knows she is his mate. Aedan tells her he will protect her though he has a traitor to catch. They make love and he is stunned when she glitters as if she is fey.

The entries are entertaining historical vampire romances though the thin storylines are similar with an innocent female unaware of the existence of vampires and sensitive lead males assisting them with their transition.
