What a wonderful biography - Joshua Slocum is a guy's guy. Loving and responsible, daring and adept, determined and wry - this is a good character for boys (and girls!) to know about. This is a longer, more complex picture biography - 3rd grade and up, I would say.
The illustrations are WOW! Almost VanGogh-ish with the brushed skies and the weathered boards and the rippled water and the portraits. This is a true biography of an inspirational man - a regular guy doing extraordinary things and sailing around the globe - solo. |
