Project Born - "Born Dead EP" (5 stars), September 23, 2008
In 1994, an underground hip-hop duo by the name of Project Born, consisting of Frank Nitty and Lil' Half Pint, released their debut 6-track EP "Born Dead" on Psychopathic Records. This was the first record anyone besides Insane Clown Posse had released on Psychopathic Records. And this 34 minute album is 100% completely Flawless.
Frank Nitty has a nasal-ish, full-throated flow and his lyrics consist of street/thug life, selling drugs and even traditional Detroit influenced horrorcore rap. While Lil' Half Pint has a more crisp, clean voice and flow and his lyrics have the same consistency of Frank Nitty. As for the superior of the two, I can't rule it out, they both are top-notch for me.
As for the beats, I couldn't ask for better. Once again Mike E. Clark proved why he is one of the most talented producers in underground hip-hop. Other producers on this album are Esham The Unholy and Project Born themselves. The beats here are a mixture of gangsta rap, g-funk and horrorcore. And it's a very good mix! Every beat on here is great in its own way.
Here's my individual track ratings.
01. "Go To War" (A+)
02. "Let It Go" (A+)
03. "Losin' It (ft. Esham The Unholy)" (A+) (favorite)
04. "Bigga Balls" (A+)
05. "From The Get Go" (A+)
06. "Graveyard (ft. Insane Clown Posse)" (A+)
There it is. So to put it in prospective, this is a classic. Short, but sweet. Big things come in small packages. Although this album is well over a decade out of print, you can still download it at various websites. It's just a shame that they were dropped off the label soon after this was released. I recommend this to gangsta rap fans, horrorcore rap fans and those who enjoy Insane Clown Posse, Esham, Three 6 Mafia and so on. Go ahead and download this. It is well worth the megabytes. Peace.

Let It Go, March 25, 2007
This EP from Flint, Michigan rappers Half-Pint and Frank Nitty was born by Psychopathic Records in 1994 entitled 'Born Dead EP' by Project Born. The rappers, from the local projects in Flint, caught the attention of Insane Clown Posse frontman Violent J. Project Born sent an original demo, basically consisting of the songs on this album 'Born Dead', to the Insane Clown Posse, who were just in the makings of expanding their own underground label, Psychopathic Records, based out of Detroit, Michigan.
The demo sent to ICP was soon lost somehow at Psychopathic Records. ICP immediately got Project Born a ride to the studio to re-record the demo they'd sent J(which had been the only copy). The outcome was Born Dead, an EP ICP put out to see how successful the rappers might get. Typical of Psychopathic Records, the album was released just as an EP to see how marketable PJB was. PJB was eventually supposed to release a full LP with Psychopathic Records, but the relationship rapidly ended after release of their EP. Violent J has stated he doesn't believe 'Born Dead' was even close to the freshness of the demo they'd earlier recieved.
Despite the expired beef between PJB and Psychopathic, I believe both parties couldn't deny that this, although a short 6 tracks, is a classic for the record books.
The strongest track, in my opinion, is 'Let It Go', featuring an instrumental similar to that of an old track made by a soul group I don't know the name of. I heard this old song in Wal*Mart the other day, and I couldn't think of the name of the song which resembled the song. At first I thought it was an Esham track named "I Thought U Knew", but soon after it came to my dome like a bullet. Let It Go by Project F'n Born! A definite classic.
This also features a track featuring then-labelmates ICP on 'Graveyard'. On the underground scene, 'Graveyard' was a pretty hot track after it was released on Insane Clown Posse's Forgotten Freshness volume 1 & 2. It was, to date, the only track ICP and Project Born have ever layed down. However, as announced in 2008, ICP will in fact be featured on PJB's Born Dead 2 release and even gave fans the chance to hear the track on their webpage.
The Godfather of Acid Rap even makes an appearance on 'Losin' It'. ICP was mainly to thank for the additional vocals laid down by Esham Tha Unholy, who was good friends with J and Shaggy 2 Dope and had recorded several tracks for and with ICP. 'Losin' It' featuring Esham was recorded at Hell's Doors studio in Detroit and is also featured on 'Hatchet History - The Best of Psychopathic Records.'
Most people haven't even heard of PJB outside the MI area, much less this album. From begining(Go To War), to between(Bigga Balls) to the ICP featured ending track, this EP is the definition of short and sweet. PJB has a nice catalogue of tracks post-Psychopathic, check out underground albums 'Rent Is Due' and 'Jack The Reaper'. Both excellent non-Psychopathic albums. These and 'Born Dead' can be found either here or at E-Bay. Keep your ears and eyes open for the sequel...
