Next Best Thing!,
By Anita (Portugal) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Born to Do It (Audio CD)
I can't get over Craig David's new album...truly unique sound like Babyface has his and R. Kelly has his...and Joe...but still, Craig David offers so much more than your norman boy-meets-girl-and-gets-heartbroken type of song. Ever since Fill Me In came out I knew I'd fall for his music...and I did!I must say I'm already anxious about his second album! This is such a welcome revelation and enrichment to the music scene all over the world...upbeat tunes that will keep you dancing all day (Time to Party) and ballads you won't get depressive with (Once In A Lifetime). I say this cures any depression or nervous break down. I listen to it in the mornig to get me going...at lunch time to help me digest and at night to cradle me to sleep...but I also listen to it in between :)) I wish Craig all the best but then again I don't have to. He's just destined to be a huge star. I hope this record gets enough promotion in the USA. It's going to blow the charts...for sure! He was born to do it alright... Craig David...you just fill me in babe :))

The Smoothest Sound Of 2000,
By Ian Creamer (Dublin,Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Born to Do It (Audio CD)
The brightest new star to hit the U.K. music scene in the year 2000 was without a doubt Craig David. One listen to this c.d. and you'll realise that he has got mega-star potential for not just Europe but also worldwide. He of course came to initial fame with the help of dance duo Artful Dodger,so it was no major surprise when his debut solo single "Fill Me In" hit number 1.This song opens the c.d. "Born To Do It"-it's a real smooth mix of R/B and Garage-and tells the story of a teenagers naughty relationship. The next song is driven along by a beautiful yet furious rhythm-it's got potential hit single written all over it.In fact the next two songs were also hits over here."Rendevous" a slow grinding sort of song and "7 Days"-both sound pretty similar. They both have gentle keyboards, soft acoustic guitar and both are just really catchy songs. So the first four songs totally amazed me with their overall quality.Normally I'm not a major fan of this type of music, but this c.d. was proving to be a major exception to that rule. Follow Me is another smooth grooving ballad. It isn't as good as the first 4 songs, but then that standard was always going to be hard to maintain. The next song also uses the same harp sounding synth used by Brandy and Monica and it's a sound that is used throughout this c.d.This would be my only fault with the c.d.,is that many of the songs sound too similar after a while. That's why the next song "Walking Away" is my favourite on the whole c.d.-it is an amazing song.On this he uses strings, slightly vocoded vocals and a guitar riff which is not too disimilar to the one used by U2 on their song "One",oh yeah and the bass line is stonking also. The song is my highlight on this c.d.Yet even though it's hard to top the previous song, the next one "Time To Party" comes very close. It's a more upbeat, swinging song and yes as the title says it's a real party song, with a great chorus. Potential hits just keep flowing with the next song-"Booty Man"-it's a fast-paced ballad, with superb riff done on electric guitar. At this stage it's just quite amazing that every song on the c.d. has potential hit single written all over them-I mean the standard is just that good. You know he could milk the hits from this c.d. for two years!!Song 10-"Once In A Lifetime" is a bit too commercial for my liking-it's got a 'boy-band' feel to it,and is one of the weaker songs in my opinion. The quality of this c.d. is relentless as the last two songs are good also. The last song "Rewind" is a bit special as it's the song that brought him to the attention of people and is thankfully included here. It's got a major garage/d.j. feel to it. So this c.d. has made me change my opinion about this particular musical genre. No matter what type of music you like I gurantee you'll like this c.d.The song quality is just so amazing. The thing I can't wait to see is when the U.S. sits up and takes notice of Craig David, cos he's got the potential to be massive there.

Fill You In On Craig David!,
By Brittany Rose (Winnipeg, MB) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Born to Do It (Audio CD)
Craig David is a 19 year old hip hop phenomenon if you ask me! I first discovered him after reading about his first single, "Fill Me In" in british mags. After listening to the first few seconds of his single, I was hooked. Craigs music is a mix of hip hip, r and b, pop, romantic guitars, and garage [meaning sorta jungle-like]. I was lucky enough to pick up a copy of Mr.Davids CD for Christmas time, from my British aunt, and here is a track by track listing for you!1.Fill Me In: Craigs first single is really catchy, and once you learn the words you'll find yourself singing them everywhere. Even if you don't, the melody and certain catch-words will hook you. 2.Can't Be Messing Round: Craig produced this whole song, and its a great hip hop song with a easy to learn, catchy chorus. 3.Rendevous- This song is really sweet and Craig's voice sounds good. The backround guitars and opening voice thing is really catchy, as is the chorus. 4.7 Days: Craigs 2nd single is incredibly infectious. The chorus, the lyrics, the two different guitar parts...a very well produced track. 5.Follow Me: Obiviously a filler, this song is sorta cool because his voice skips over itself, and he repeats words. Hard to explain but this slower song is a interesting one. 6.Last Night: This is a total bar song, and you can just picture it being played there. The little voices, like the spanish woman, and Craigs alter ego guyz who appear all over the album add to it. 7.Walking Away: Craig goes Indy! Not my fave song, and I wouldn't have expected him to pick it as a 3rd single, but a nice song none the less. 8.Time To Party: This song just revs you up for the weekend. In some ways it reminds me of song 6, but its really different. 9.The Booty Man: A nice slow romantic song, with warm vocals and lyrics, it just is a great chill-out track. The chorus words are sorta funny though. 10.Once In A Lifetime: The backround music in this song, focuses on the piano, and you can picture this being something like the last song before the encore, as its a nice airy, movie-soundtrack type song. 11.You Know What: One of my faves, you can picture Craigs dancers [if he has them!] doing a dance routine in couples to this track. Its a good song to dance to and realllllly catchy. 12.Rewind: Artful Dodger helps Craig out here, in this Jungle track which sounds like a normal club song, until the chorus. I won't spill anything, but basically, CD doesn't sound like himself that much anymore :P So take my advice now! Buy this CD no matter what, try and get a copy. Tell your friends and be ahead of the crowd, cuz when Craig actually does come over here to Canada/USA, he'll rock the continent like no other...for now its just my little secret!

CRAIG DAVID IS COMING!!!,
By STEVE PAGE (BATH, B.A.N.E.S. United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Born to Do It (Audio CD)
Im from the UK and Craig David is huge over here, his first 2 singles became no.1 hits, and his album just debuted at No.1 aswell. His music is R&B oriendtated with hints of Garage (which is so huge over here right now!) When trying to compare him it's hard because he sounds so distinctive from any other R&B artists out there. He has had mass appeal over here appealing to all genres. Word is he will release his 1st UK singles Fill Me In in the US early 2001. But you people should not wait that long too hear Craig David, this rising star will soon be all u hear!!!

***OUTSTANDING DEBUT CD BY CRAIG DAVID***,
By "mandylml" (Singapore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Born to Do It (Audio CD)
The first time I heard Southampton singer Craig David was when he was topping the UK charts with the Artful Dodger (in collaboration with producer Mark Hill) in the hit RE-REWIND. Back then, most people were predicting big things for him and it now seems that they were right on the money. With the release of his maiden album which stormed the charts last year, he has proved himself to be a phenomenal success.I can't really put my finger on just what is so unique about Craig David. However, having seen him perform live at the Brit Awards 2000 in Feb 2001 (which he was summarily snubbed, up for 6 awards and went away empty-handed), it was plain to see that he has loads of charisma, oozes SEX APPEAL from every pore, AND possesses all that incredible drive and musical artistry on stage-AWESOME! His blend of music is a bit of everything ranging from UK 2 step garage to R&B to soul to hip-hop to pop. Usually not a keen listener of the former, I was grabbed from the first by his catchy tunes, great vibes and his groovy moves. With UK hit singles FILL ME IN and 7 DAYS under his belt, Craig David is now ready to be the NEXT BIG BRITISH INVASION since the Spice Girls to cross the Atlantic to America. Watch out! BORN TO DO IT is an excellent debut CD that possesses a good mixture of slow ballads and fast numbers to suit your palette. His songs about the trials/heartbreak of meeting/leaving girls (he's only 20!) are sure to touch a chord with his many potential listeners. One outstanding track of the album is WALKING AWAY, which Craig croons so soulfully in his silky voice and sure to attract an enormous crowd of screaming female fans over there. This song has been enjoying an enormous amount of airplay here since its release (I even have the single with all its remixes) and is a huge favorite on the dedication program on the radio. Other noteworthy mentions: TIME TO PARTY, a fast track that will get you right into the party mood, RENDEZVOUS (Craig's personal favorite), YOU KNOW WHAT, LAST NIGHT, CAN'T BE MESSING AROUND and REWIND. In fact, the beat is so tight on this disc, you won't soon run out of songs to rave about. His musical idol/influence being R Kelly, Craig's songs are reminiscent of Kelly at times. Do yourself a big favor, run don't walk to the stores now to get this CD before they run out of stocks! `Cause when the secret's out, there won't be many left on the shelves. Tired of all those everyday run-of-the-mill balladeers/rappers? Fret no more. Get two copies of the album, and your mate will love you for introducing him/her to such a fresh new voice in the R&B/rap/hip-hop genre. If you only get one CD this year, make it this, as it is truly a worthy buy. Listen to BORN TO DO IT and you will be singing along to the melodies in no time at all. Craig David is an amazing talent for someone so young; I can only imagine how big he's going to become when he eventually breaks into the US markets. By then, America would know what Asia and Europe had known all along-that Craig David is BORN TO DO IT, and proud of it. RECOMMENDED. Mandy Lee

Born to do music must be what Craig means......dont sleep!,

This new one from Craig david took me by a suprise. I first heard of him when I listened to the new jazzmatazz album from guru. The song was tight and i was wondering who this new singer was. I did a search on amazon and found this album that poeple know nothing about over here. After hearing 3 songs I was hooked. I read that he is like the equivalent to R. kelly over in the UK. If he was to release this over in the U.S. with the right promotion he would blow up. His album is mostly R+B but mixed in with diferent kinds of music and sounds so its hard to compare him to anyone else. Anyone who likes R+B or Hip-Hop should check this out because it is real diferent. Everysong here is worth listening too so I can only tell you which ones I like the best. best songs:rewind, time to party, fill me in, rendevous, cant be messing around and walking away.Dont sleep on this one...its something different. get it!

Three Thumbs Up!,
By "vampirelayer" (Casa Chess) - See all my reviews

Craig David has an incredibly SEXY voice, an amazing TALENT and then he's only a teenager (well, 19 right?), which makes it seem even more IMPRESSIVE. His potential is very well displayed in his debut album, 'Born To Do It'. My favorite song on the album is 'Seven Days'. It's so different from the usual I normally hear on the radio. I guess that is why I love his music so much - it is so out of the ordinary and there is a very unique, smooth vibe of R&B sliding through this album. Three thumbs up. Something tells me CRAIG DAVID's going to be the NEXT BIG THING. Craig, if you're reading this: Best of luck, the music industry definitely needs more of your music!

Absolutely Luv It!,

I think this is one of the best albums, R&B or otherwise, that I have heard in a long time. I am from the states, but I first heard of Craig David on a recent trip to Ireland. I have the CD on back order now, and I can't wait to get it! I think that even though some of the songs do sound kind of alike (Rendevous and 7 days), it is still a really good CD. I am not a huge fan of R & B, especially American R&B, but Craig has made me a convert! I highly recommend this album to all! I was the first one in my area to recommend Dido to all of my friends when she was only known in the UK. I predicted to them that she would become really big, and I am telling them the same thing about Craig!

Get Ready for The New British Invasion,
By Shawn White (Shreveport, LA United States) - See all my reviews

Craig David crashed onto the European scene last year and has sold over 1.5 million records in Europe. He brings a fresh new sound called "Garage" to you. In the US, it's been a battle over who would sign him to distribute in the US. He caught noterity with the "Re-Rewind The Crowd Says Bo Selecta" which is on this album as "Rewind". The catchy hooks to "Fill Me In" and the hard hit dance driven "Can't Be Messing Round" lure you into his style. You also get to experience his smooth vocals on wonderful tunes such as "7 Days", "Walking Away", and "Once In A Lifetime". He melodic rhythms will soon entrance into being a fan. I bought it the day it came out in the UK as an import. I can't wait to see him crash into our shore and see how he impacts the US music scene.

it took some work to get this piece of music, but thank god for the napster. i found out about craig from his track on guru's jazzmatazz. and this is a very mellow debut--kind of a cross between terrence trent d'arby, donell jones, and dave hollister. my favorite tracks are 7 days, and booty man. hopefully he'll get released here in the u.s. one day
