5.0 out of 5 stars the most underrated NYHC band EVER, September 3, 2004

This review is from: Born to Expire / Desperate Measures (Audio CD)
This cd is a MUST have for anyone who even thinks they know hardcore. It's a combo of two of the best cds ever (in my opinion). It baffles me that so many college djs who spin
punk/hardcore shows have no f-ing clue who LEEWAY is.
I'm also baffled by some of these "listmania" individuals who put together hardcore lists that doesn't include LEEWAY, or Run Devil Run (who you also need to check out).
Did i mention that this is a MUST HAVE?

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff, May 9, 2004

Great band. Often overlooked when it comes to the New York crossover scene as their first album didn't come out till 88'. They sound a bit like Megadeth and Slayer combined with Agnostic Front and Cro-mags. Great stuff. Born to Expire is the best of the bunch as it'sfast and furious. Desperate Measures is a bit slowed down with a big Sabbath influence. Still great though. Be interesting to know what happened to these guys...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is good stuff, March 27, 2004

This album will appeal especially to people not from around the NYC area. This is where it all started... Leeway were one of the original crossover bands... combining speed metal and the underground hardcore sound happening in the east village and alphabet city in NYC at that time. True hardcore bands were 'heavier', but Leeway really defined a sound. Definitely worth a listen... particularly to Rise and Fall, Be Loud, Born to Expire, and Mark of the Squealer. 5.0 out of 5 stars AN OLD SCHOOL MUST HAVE, August 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Born to Expire / Desperate Measures (Audio CD)
Leeway has given hardcore fans a reason to spend their money on a double CD. Though different in range--cuts from Born to Expire are heavy and furious, while Desperate Measures are more funky--the music still exemplifies the rage Leeway is known for. Fastidious guitar and drums combined with the strong vocal (albeit polar opposite on some songs) range of the singer make this album nothing less than a classic for underground listeners.

5.0 out of 5 stars hybrid metal/hardcore ala cro-mags,biohazard, judge,prong&killing time!, September 9, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Born to Expire / Desperate Measures (Audio CD)
these guy crept out of the woodwork 87/88 with born to expire totally fast hardcore but more thrash like riffs something unheard of at the time.they had a sound that noone ever could match and talent to boot.
after a couple years they released despirit measures not as furious ot fast as the last cd but much more rythmic and heavy.they had some personal changes with this release but they still managed to create a buzz and even got on mtv's headbangers ball pretty good for a ny hardcore band only AF,cro-mags and murphy's law ever did that but then as it started quickly it ended the brillant hardcore outfit stoped writting goog music and release 2 bad cds 94/95.buy this double cd you willn't be sorry they bring it down hard.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have, June 21, 2008
This review is from: Born to Expire / Desperate Measures (Audio CD)
One of my all time favorite albums. To this day, Born to Expire does not get the credit that it deserves and is often overshadowed by Cro Mags/ Age of Quarrel. The amazing thing about this album is for its recording that was done back in 87/88, its heavy sound still gives any cd to this day a run for its money. Lee's voice was often comparedd to Ozzy and rightfully so. If your into the crossover sound and want to add to your collection, pick up born to Expire and find out what its all about.

one of the best albums ever made is born to expire.Desperate measures is pretty sick too.combine them both and you have a cd worth dying for.I think leeway should be rich and famous for these albums, being as amazing as they are.If I was left with one cd in the world to listen to for the rest of my life this would be it.In other words, find it ,steal it, do what ever you can to obtain this Mother Fookin cd
