Book Description

The story of the night Aiden was born has never been told, until now. Fleeing the Hunter's, Kevan and Shannon O'Reilly find their way to Spruce Knoll Colorado, assuming they'll be safe in America. Their unborn son is special, even for a druid, or channeler as the American's like to call their kind. But why the Hunter's, people who are sworn to keep their kind safe, are after them is a mystery. All they know is that if they don't outrun them they'll be killed.

Trouble has followed them to Spruce Knoll and just when it seems it may be too late, they discover why.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Heather has managed to put in so much in those few pages that I am simply in awe of it. So much emotion, action, love and betrayal and all in just 33 pages without overwhelming the reader - it is indeed an amazing feat." ~Debdatta of b00kr3vi3ws.

"I really love Heather McCorkle's writing style - rich and vivid, yet not overly long description and fast-paced dialogue. This was a great little read and I guess now I need to get the 'Secret of Spruce Knoll!" ~author J.A. Redmerski.

"I read this short before finishing the Secret of Spruce Knoll, the novel that started the Channeler series. And all I can say is WOW! I am so thrilled about the story. And I can't wait to jump into the series. The characters are intriguing, the plot fast moving. Great start. Can't wait for more." ~author Christine Fonseca.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best is yet to come... July 4, 2012
By Nereid
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was recommended to me after reading Christine Fonseca's blog and I read an intro on this book and it sounded quite good.
This story certainly had me interested from page one and I liked the idea of warrior druids as I had not read a book about them before. Although only a novella, it was enough of an introduction for me to know that I am looking forward to reading the next book to find out what happens to Aiden who even at birth had the gift of healing. How tragic to lose his parents as he was just coming into the world. Who were the couple who killed his parents and stole him away and for what purpose? Why are they so threatened by him? Lots of questions that I hope are answered in the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action! May 20, 2012
By Darlene
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a fun, action-packed look into Aiden's birth and a dream sequence from his teens years. There were a couple editing oopsies but nothing that stopped the story. I would love to give less stars for being so short. I wanted more. I love Aiden in Heather McCorkle's Channeler series. As I say all this I realize that his life might not be easy to write about as his home-life isn't much of one. Dreaming might be better than the reality in his case. I think this should be added to the larger books to give us more perspective while in the story. It had been a while for me since I read the books (The Secret Of Spruce Knoll: A Channeler Novel and Channeler's Choice (A Channeler Novel)). I actually had to look them up to get perspective. Even still, it was almost as good as a cup of coffee to wake up to this morning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can I give it 6 Stars? April 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I came across the Channeler's Series through Christine Fonseca's blog and it immediately caught my attention. So when I saw that the Prequel to the series was available for free on Smashwords, I downloaded it.

The first thing that caught my attention was the name "Born of Fire" and it made me curious. The amazing book cover managed to only increase my interest in the series. I mean - look at it - isn't it gorgeous? By the time I was done reading the summary of the book and little bit about the series, I was hooked.

Aiden, the protagonist of the series, has special talents. While still in his mother's womb, he made it very eminent that he was special and powerful. He was hunted even before he was born because of a prophecy. His parents were on the run in order to protect themselves from the hunters. Eventually the hunters caught up to them and they fought valiantly. But in the end it was just not enough! We are also given a glimpse of Aiden's life with his adoptive family where there's no love lost. But the last line of book, ["Never. Someday I'll defeat you."], gives us an idea about his strong will and character

Heather has managed to put in so much in those few pages that I am simply in awe of it. So much emotion, action, love and betrayal and all in just 33 pages without overwhelming the reader - it is indeed an amazing feat.
