And some of these rides are wild, indeed; big strong thermals and dust devils, thermaling out from low "saves", control-bar shaking turbulence over 13,145 feet msl - this is what hang gliding is all about! I particularly like the big rippin' wing-over-almost-loop from Mark Gibson over the tram on Sandia Peak above Albuquerque, NM as a tornado shreds the sky out front. That's right, a tornado!
That is, I like watching this from the comfort of my couch. I wouldn't want to be there. I just crawl up to the TV on my knees, point my finger for the benefit of other viewers and say, "See that? See right there? It's a funnel cloud. Not for posers!"
Some highlights of the video are: Fly over the gentle waters of Miami, Florida. Getting your ass kicked in the powerful air of the legendary Owens Valley as you fly north to Mina, Nevada. Traveling south like the birds to the ancient cultures and active volcanoes of Guatemala. An interview with World Record holder, Larry Tudor, talking about why he has flown a hang glider farther than anyone. Sandia Peak tram, in Albuquerque, New Mexico leads you to cloudbase during the Cross Country Classic.
