Biography

Strength, versatility and a spunky sense of adventure are qualities more often associated with literary heroines than successful country singers, but then there’s nothing typical about Sara Evans. Whether dominating country radio airwaves with one of her many hit singles or attracting a new legion of fans with her spirited turn on “Dancing with the Stars,” Evans’ ... Product Description

Sara Evans ~ Born To Fly

Amazon.com

With Three Chords and the Truth, her 1997 debut album, Missouri-born Sara Evans not only wowed listeners with her superb vocal chops, but also boldly and unpretentiously staked claim to a neo-traditionalist style that suggested she'd done a lot of listening to Loretta Lynn and the late Tammy Wynette in her younger days. With Born to Fly, her third album, Evans continues her descent from the neo-traditional high ground and her move uptown. She makes it clear she's also listened quite a bit to the likes of Trisha Yearwood and Bruce Hornsby, whose "Every Little Kiss" she ably covers here. On the exuberant title tune and on fine country-pop ballads like "I Could Not Ask for More" and the lovely "Saints and Angels," Evans proves she can just as sweetly and deftly patrol the uptown territory as she can the down-home highlands, which she revisits on the steel guitar-adorned weeper "I Learned That from You." Though not every song on Born to Fly insinuates its way into listeners' imaginations like the above-mentioned gems do, this solid, ambitious 11-song collection stands as another feather in this gifted young singer's colorful musical cap. --Bob Allen

She has a great voice and writes beautiful music.

Even if you're not a fan of country music (and I myself am not it's biggest supporter), I highly recommend this CD.

Very seldom do you get a CD in which you can honestly say you like every song on it.

I've always thought Sara Evans was an excellent singer, but just pair her up with this set of excellent songs and she demonstrates she was definately "Born to Fly". This is one of the best CD's I've purchased in a while and I'm an avid collector of all types of music. It' so hard to pick a favorite song because they are all so good. I just bought this today and have listened to it three times all the way through without stopping. I recommend this to anyone and predict lots of sales. I rate it #1

I have had this cd for two days and already it is my all-time favorite. It has a perfect mix of ballads and up-tempo songs. Sara Evan's voice is unbelievably soothing. It contains a wonderful remake of the song "Just a Little Kiss" by Bruce Hornsby who performs the song with her on this cd. All of her songs on this cd are superb. I highly recommend this cd for country music fans!

When Sara Evans emerged on the scene in 1997, she seemed to be a neo-traditionalist in the vein of fellow newcomer Lee Ann Womack and the great Patty Loveless. With No Place That Far in 1998, she began to merge the country side with slight country-pop leanings. Born To Fly completes this transformation, with the country-pop taking dominance on the album. That said, this is a great country-pop album, straddling the fence without going the Faith/Shania route. Saints and Angels is one of the best songs I've heard all year, and she actually makes the Diane Warren composition I Could Not Ask For More sound like something other than a throwaway track. This album should firmly establish Evans as one to watch.

I didn't think Sara could top her excellent Three Chords And The Truth CD, but she did. Sara has a lovely voice that reminds me of Patty Loveless's voice, only Sara's is a little lower. "I Learned That From You," a gorgeous and well written song about the different stages of love, sounds like it could have been done by Patty. Most songs, however, do have Sara's unique stamp on them. It helps to use some musicians who don't seem like they are on every other country album. She's going a bit in the direction Terri Clark did on Fearless. Which means a more elaborate sound than before. The rocking "I'm Still Looking" is more straightforward, but not cookie cutter either. "Saints And Angels" tells a nice tale about how we aren't perfect, but in moments of love, we can show power that saints and angels have. It's very insprational and another beautiful song. The rising "You Don't" will definitely stop you in your tracks with how it's constructed to unleash the full force of Sara's voice. Definitely this is an important country CD for your collection.

I feel very fortunate to have discovered Sara Evans. I'm not really a country music fan. I like the great old singers of country music like Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, George Jones, but--except for Shania Twain--I don't go in for "new country." I guess some people think this album is more pop than country, but all that matters to me is that I love this album. From what I read, Sara Evans also offers a traditional country sound in her earlier albums, so I will definitely be checking those out. I've never really heard this singer before. I saw her on a commercial for Country Music Television, heard just the one line "How do you wait for Heaven?" and was basically hooked. It is very rare for me to really like a song when I first hear it, and it is especially rare for me to like a song when I only hear six words of it. Once I found out the name of this artist, I checked out the clips on Amazon's web site and knew I had to buy this album.
"Born to Fly" is just one of those rare songs that really grabs me for some reason. Having never heard the entire song until I bought the CD, I was happy to see that it was over 5.5 minutes long--unfortunately, the second half of the song is just music (I want to hear singing, not music). That's about the only disappointing thing about this CD, though. There are no bad songs here; in fact, all of them just get better and better the more I listen to them. "Saints and Angels" is a wonderful song which really seems to fit nicely after "Born to Fly." "I Could Not Ask For More" and "Why Should I Care" are incredible and really exemplify the honesty and emotion Sara's voice conveys.

Imagine this...an album full of good songs...no you are not dreaming, this is one of those albums. Every track is sung with passion and the lyrics aren't just teenieboppin fluff to fill in the time between radio singles . What stands out for me is Sara's unique voice...strong, sassy, and yet soothing. I can listen to this cd over and over again...every track. My favs are 'Four-Thirty', 'I Learned That From You', 'Saints and Angels' and 'Why Should I Care'. There is plenty of range from upbeat to sad songs, both of which Sara performs beautifully. This is a classic, one that I know I will listen to years from now and love it just as much as the first week I listened to it. If you are not familiar with Sara, this is the cd to buy!!
