Great Product,

We have been using Born Free bottles for over two months and haven't ever had a problem with mold. Recently we switched from Level 1 to the Y-cut nipples because our 2-month old has reflux and needed to be put on a formula with rice starch; the starch causes the formula to be much thicker. She couldn't get the formula through the level 1 nipples, so we tried the Y-cut, and they work great!

I bought these for my six month old baby and he vetoed them instantly because the flow was way too fast. My two year old son takes an occasional bottle and he likes the fast flow. So I'd suggest just buying one pack and trying them out if you think your baby is ready.
The overall quality is equal or better to the Avent and much better than the Dr Brown I have used in the past.

Mom of One,

When my daughter was born 3 months ago, we wanted to use Medela bottles/nipples because they fit perfectly with the pump I was using. The nipples were way too fast and they leaked. That is when we tried Born Free. We initially chose them because they were BPA free and came in both glass and plastic. While slightly more expensive than its competitors, the Born Free seemed to be the right choice for our daughter. We used both the level 1 and level 2 nipples and were happy with them except for the occasional inversion when she was REALLY hungry.
Our daughter has acid reflux and her pediatrician suggested that we begin putting cereal in her milk to help her food stay down better. The pediatrician suggested using an old nipple and widening the whole. I did some research online and found these y-cut nipples. They worked great-much better than the homemade ones. The flow was perfect for my 3-month-old and she hardly spit up any milk. I am planning to buy a few more for convenience.

I love using the Y cut nipples for my baby's cereals and for baby foods to serve on the run. It would take a really large chunk to clog them. If you make sure the food inside is not too thin, then it comes out at a very good pace for a baby over six months old.

Y-cut is great,

I was hesitant to buy these because of some of the reviews but, I'm glad I did it. I have a 9.5 month old baby and she is doing great with the y-cut even without cereal. Size 3 was too slow and she was getting bored sucking on the nipple and she wouldn't finish her bottle. Y-cut is pretty fast flow. She finishes her bottle in a matter of couple of minutes. She doesn't choke or gag at all. I think if people wait for the right time to use these there won't be a choking problem. I highly recommend this product and all the BornFree products.

Never had a mold problem,

This is a general review for born free products; we've been using the bottles and nipples for 4.5 months and we have never had a mold problem. After every use we disassemble and clean all the parts. Great products.

Flow is perfect regular formula or pumped breastmilk for my 8 month old. She has no problem taking them. Great product. Highly recommend.

Cheap nipple and way too fast flow,
By J Garrett (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews

These Y-cut nipples torn very easily after less than one month of use. Because of the design, they are prone to tearing. Also, the flow is too fast for any formula or milk. Even experienced 12 month olds do not like the fast flow, compared to the older 'level 4' nipples. I do not recommend these nipples mostly because they are cheap and tear easily, causing the flow to increase even more. Not an improved product, but a step backwards, unless your bottom line is to 'sell' more products, despite the quality.

If you use the Borne system, I'm not sure what choice you have here - but these nipples are too thin. I've gone through several of these as they often rip. My only point of comparison are the Avent and the Avent ones lasted much longer. Too bad the Avent aren't glass or free of the plastic of which we will not speak.

Massive Flow Rate,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Born Free Y-Cut Silicone Nipples- Twin Pack (Baby Product)
The nipple is exactly how it's described, a Y-cut nipple slit on the top of the head head. As of this writing, it's disappointing that no where does it recommend what age or situation should this nipple be used.
Unfortunately, my 9 month son, still can't take the massive flow it's designed to do (Just to get an idea, he's 75 percentile for body height/weight at 9months and has a good appetite). Conclusion: If you have an infant/toddler that can handle a good amount through a nipple at once, this would be good consideration. We simply had to resolve the flow rate problem by adding rice cereal to thicken the fluids. |
