This review is from: Born Knowing: A Medium's Journey-Accepting and Embracing My Spiritual Gifts (Paperback)
If the stories related in this book are accurately recorded and not embellished, John Holland is indeed a gifted medium, right up there with John Edward, James van Praagh, George Anderson, and other well-known American mediums.Holland begins with his early life, when his father called him "the different one." After moving to California, he had more and more psychic and mediumistic experiences. "I had to figure out a way to harness this energy or gift so that I could live my own life," he writes. It was not until he went to England at age 34 that he began to fully understand and develop his gift. There he attended Arthur Findlay College, the center of spiritual and psychic investigation and instruction in the UK. When he returned to the United States, he no longer found it necessary to supress his talents as he now understood how to use them. Holland relates a number of very interesting, informative, intriguing, and inspirational stories. As an example, there is the story of Dick, a skeptical but open-minded East Coast radio announcer. Dick's deceased father came through with his name, Carl. As evidence, Carl mentioned to his son how they once enjoyed listening to Al Jolson phonograph records together. Later in the reading, Carl told his son to give his love to his girlfriend. Dick laughed, unaware of any girlfriend. The father then explained that the woman lived in the apartment above him. Dick later investigated and confirmed that his father had had a romantic relationship with the woman in the apartment above, but had kept it to himself because he wasn't sure his children would approve. Such evidence as this, information unknown to the sitter, seemingly rules out telepathy or mind reading on the part of the medium. In the final chapters, the author explains how things come to him in his clairvoyance and clairaudience. He also answers a number of questions about mediumship and the spirit world. The open-minded reader should find this a fascinating read.

Enlightening,
By David Flood (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Born Knowing: A Medium's Journey-Accepting and Embracing My Spiritual Gifts (Paperback)
I found John's words full of comfort and hope. This is a tender and concisely written biography on the "inside" of a medium's evolution, from catching glimpses of lights and warm faces in his bedroom as a child in Boston to attending Authur Findlay College in Britian and eventually landing an appearance on "Unsolved Mysteries." I've read George Anderson's books and found that John's is just as engaging if not more, as he writes with a refreshingly candid innocense and color. He includes exercises to develop your own psychic abilities. (We all are born with a sixth sense but lose touch.) Thank you for having the courage to share your gift, John! I look forward to seeing you in Seattle.

Born Knowing is The Real Deal, Highly Recommended,

This review is from: Born Knowing: A Medium's Journey-Accepting and Embracing My Spiritual Gifts (Paperback)
John Holland has given all of us a gift, and that is to honor, embrace, and USE our natural and highest sense of all, our Divine and inherent connection to the Light and life that is as real on the other side, as it is on Earth.
John shares with compassion on how difficult it is to accept multisensory awareness. I know, as I went through that same process. It's not an easy one, and John encourages all who do have this gift to honor it, and in so doing, you will be serving humanity much more than staying in a spiritual closet. John brings to light that the life of our loved ones IS alive, and they are with us, we just have to believe that just because we can't see them with our eyes, does NOT mean that they aren't here! This book is a wonderful contribution to raise the spiritual consciousness of all people. It will open your mind, and teach you much! Highly recommended from my heart, Barbara Rose, author of "Stop Being the String Along: A Relationship Guide to Being THE ONE" and 'If God Was Like Man' Editor of inspire! magazine

After reading Born Knowing I realized that John Holland is really down to earth and compassionate. His way of telling how he dealt with his abilities as a child was fascinating and refreshing. The most helpful part of the book for me was the stories from his clients. Everyone has lost a loved one and by reading their stories has helped me so much. Also, the ending of his book where he gives advice on how to stay connected with your loved ones has to help everyone. I have seen him on stage and his book totally reflects him!

I have just finished reading this book and I can not praise it enough. Not only does the book have a whole section on developing your own abilities, but it also gives the history of John, what he went through developing his skills and my favorite part: his stories and encounters. You'll laugh and cry throughout this book. It is also one of the most well written, easily read books I have come across in a long time. This is a wonderful book for anyone who has lost a loved one, or for beginning to advanced psychics. No matter what your situation, you'll finish this book feeling happy, peaceful and closer to the other side.

John Holland has hit a home run with this book, his first. John is a medium - someone able to communicate with the dead. In this book he covers discovering his gift and the twists and turns he takes to avoid using his talents full-time. Eventually John gives in to this gift and learns to fine tune his talents so that he can provide comfort to many. The book includes some basic descriptions of psychic gifts that is helpful for beginners and also offers many stories of the tender reunions between the living and the so called "dead". Highly recommended book.

I can't believe that someone who had such a difficult start in life, became such a kind and caring soul. John Holland sounds like an incredible man, more like an angel. I wonder how many people's lives have changed as a result of knowing him. The book is an inspiration to all those who have struggled to come to terms with something, but in his case, to come to terms with commuicating with spirit, that's a first!Great book John! Keep up the good work, and stay yourself.

I bought this book to take on vacation to read, but it didn't make it there! I started reading it the day I received it and by the next evening, I was finished. Having seen John on a local TV program, I could hear his voice while I was reading his story. When describing some of the demonstrations and group readings, I felt I was in the room with those people. Some of the readings he describes are so truly amazing, that you'll want to book a reading immediately. I had the pleasure of meeting John a few years ago when he did a reading for me. I had wondered how he came to the point in his life when I had met him. I wondered no more after I read his book. Enjoy his book, it will leave you wanting him to write another!

A Review by a Medium,

I thought this book was really interesting, though his experiences were different than my own as a medium. There were a lot of similiar feelings that I could relate too.
