More About the Author

Deanna Cottrell was born on a small dairy farm in rural New York State in 1940. She married right out of High School, moved to Vermont and within the five years following, gave birth to four children. Always interested in horses, she began raising and training horses. She had drawn and painted since she was a small child but began to paint in earnest as a young adult trying to find an escape from the fatique of being a parent. She has sailed extensively in the Carribean, has traveled in her motorhome for seveal years with her dog, has always been interested in the natural world and spirituality, espcially Native American studies, and she has lived through and written about several life changeing events. She now divides her time between Hartford, NY and The Villages, FL. where she continues to paint, write and bike.

Deanna Cottrell has written a wonderful story of her challenges and painfully honest exposure of her feelings all along the way.

A very enthralling, narrative, I couldn't put it down until I had finished it.

She inspires all of us to keep on keeping on, coming out of our ashes reborn.

A very sensitive and spiritual woman, her writing reflects the soul of a woman challenged.

Her time alone and dealing with a form of blindness after her husband divorced her after 25 years is heart wrenching, yet she carries on.

Her family's reactions to her are so telling and pathetic, you wish you could get up and hug her.

Yet at the same time, the book is uplifting.

Painful and beautiful lessons in life jump off the pages as the Author shares her fears, doubts, revelations, and joys with readers. The Author has a unique way of surveying her innermost emotions, flaws, observations, needs, and passions. Through the artist's eyes, we are drawn into the magical world of Mother Earth as she describes the beauty of nature, with its gifts and lessons that sustain and draw her towards her healing and purpose in life. She gives readers a marvelous visual of nature that we may not have the words to describe. Deanna has the strength and courage to bring her past lessons into the current situation and mesh them together to find meaning and guidance and to understand the correlation between the physical health and spiritual needs. Her oft times brutal honesty about herself inspires readers to look inside themselves to understand their own actions and need to find healing of the soul. Her faith in God is always present, even in her darkest moments when she fears she doubts His presence. Her ever-hopeful spirit takes her through her transformation and readers are blessed with the insight and knowledge that all of us have a purpose and we need to trust that the lessons are ours to learn. We readers come to truly know that God is always with us: guiding, teaching, supporting and transforming. All we have to do is to trust that we all possess the strength to learn and grow as we move ego aside and let our God-self shine. We are all born of fire but few of us can so eloquently embrace that fire and use it to catapult us to light, love, healing and life's purpose.
