5.0 out of 5 stars Living by the lower octave......
This is a wonderful, truthful "Eye of God" look into the 12 Astrological signs with a great sense of humor attached to it. As an Astrologer myself, I often secretly cringe when someone tells me their sign.....Although I want to assume they live from the higher octave of that sign, I know that most people do not and it usually seems to play out just as Hazel...

3.0 out of 5 stars cute but predictable after a while...
when you pick this up, you will be laughing or so offended that you might not get through the book.

i think most people will be in the former crowd.

it's very funny i tell you that. and mostly dead on but after a while, it runs in circles with its information and you will get bored....

worth a read, but a buy?

i don't...

This is a wonderful, truthful "Eye of God" look into the 12 Astrological signs with a great sense of humor attached to it. As an Astrologer myself, I often secretly cringe when someone tells me their sign.....Although I want to assume they live from the higher octave of that sign, I know that most people do not and it usually seems to play out just as Hazel describes. There is great fun in reading this book and I enjoyed it thoroughly. But what comes through also, is that the peculiarities of each sign is what gives us a world of excitement and interest. If everyone were perfect, it would not be half as much fun...This makes a wonderful stocking stuffer or gift to anyone who has to deal with others or would just like to figure them out. We all need a bird's eye view once in a while and especially, to look at ourselves without the rose colored glasses!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Honest, Incredibly True!!!, November 17, 2005
This review is from: Born on a Rotten Day: Illuminating and Coping with the Dark Side of the Zodiac (Paperback)
I've never believed very much in astrology, but this great book really opened my mind!!! I've always known I'm fickle, untidy, double-faced, alert, smart, a big book reader and a child for eternity, but I really didn't know these were all characteristics of my sign, Gemini!!! It's impressive how it accurately describes the good and bad traits of my personality and of my relatives personalities (e.g. Hazel says Virgos are famous for being nitpicky, and they could spend hours explaining you some interesting things like how to hang the toilet paper in the correct way! My father's a Virgo, and he's just finished explaining me how to push the button to turn on and off the bulbs properly!!! Is this just a coincidence?) You'll be amazed by this book! BUY IT!!! BUY IT!!! P.S. GEMINI RULES!!!

This book not only makes you laugh out loud but also brings to light the truth about our signs. I read my boyfriend's and it was right on the money. I read mine and my goodness I've been exposed. LOL This is a fun book. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Truth is Out There, January 13, 2003

This review is from: Born on a Rotten Day: Illuminating and Coping with the Dark Side of the Zodiac (Paperback)
Astrology books are normally not read cover to cover, but in starts and stops according to the signs of spouses, friends, family, co-workers and acquaintences. The reader of Born on a Rotten Day will be telling everyone that someone finally got it right.

All, of course, except for the reader's sign, which must be fiction. Yeah, right.

Born on a Rotten Day is falling down funny, and if tears don't come to your eyes, no matter whose sign you are reading, you haven't been paying attention. In the vein that truth is always funnier than fiction, this book is genuinely hilarious.

Buy it, read it, tell everyone you know about it. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Birthday Present. Laugh-out Loud Funny., April 11, 2004
This review is from: Born on a Rotten Day: Illuminating and Coping with the Dark Side of the Zodiac (Paperback)
I picked up this book on a whim and don't regret it for one minute. Of course, I turned to my sun sign first, and burst out laughing, especially when the author compared a female Scorpio scorned to being "like Lady MacBeth on crack." The entire book is full of original and very funny cracks just like that. (Pun intended).

Hazel Dixon-Cooper, a professional astrologer, uses the one-minute-manager approach to her sun sign descriptions. She starts out kind (read positive traits and features), and then let's you have it, right in the gut. It's a refreshing change from all the sugar-coated material already out there.

Reading aloud from this book has so far, proved to be a very entertaining party favor, particularly if you enjoy self-deprecating humor. "Born on a Rotten Day," let's you laugh at yourself, and better yet, others.

Highly recommend.

This book came into my life at just the right time.

I've always had a strong interest in astrology and other estoeric topics. It's pretty common to get all the "good stuff" in your profiles - but this book hits home too. It gives it to you straight.

This book is both fun, and funny. A great read.

Well I certainly found it funny. I saw things about my sign (Aquarius) that were certainly true for me, and other traits that are often assumed. It's certainly not for the oversensitive.

5.0 out of 5 stars I laughed aloud -- except when I read about my sign, February 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Born on a Rotten Day: Illuminating and Coping with the Dark Side of the Zodiac (Paperback)
Everyone who's read Born on a Rotten Day says the same thing. "It's brilliant, except for the part about my sign."

True, this is a scarily right-on book. More than that, it's some of the best writing I've read in a long, long time.

If you want to laugh, to learn what the stars say about you or your significant, or if you'd just like to admire the craft of a talented, over-the-top writer, you can't do better than Hazel Dixon-Cooper.

Laugh your way through this, her first book, and you'll understand why Dixon-Cooper was selected as Cosmo's new Bedside Astrologer--and why her many fans are waiting for the next Rotten Day book -- and the next.

I'm recommending Born On A Rotten Day to all of my friends -- whatever their signs -- and to every writer who wants to learn more about the craft and skill of crafting humorous nonfiction.

The cover was the first thing that caught my attention. Any book with a cover that funny had to be worth reading. I was not disappointed. Every other astrology book I have ever read is completely focused on the good aspects of the zodiac. This book was truly refreshing. Not only did this book focus on all the problems of the zodiac , but it gave advice on how to deal with it. I was laughing the entire time I read this book. It was also nice to have both sexes described. I never knew the difference before!
