If you're already a computer consultant or thinking of getting into the field, this book is definitely for you. It's filled with advice from 12 successful consultants from all kinds of business and technology backgrounds. I wish there were more books out there like this, and I really wish I'd had a book like this when I was starting out.

There are plenty of books that break down starting a consulting business into a series of steps and procedures: 1) Incorporate, 2) Build your Documents, Timesheets, etc., 3) Hire a lawyer/accountant; basically business 101 stuff that would apply to nearly any kind of business. This book builds upon those lessons with the bigger problems we face, finding clients, staying marketable, keeping up with technology, and building a profitable practice, generating predictable cash flow, etc.

Computer consultants almost always come from technical backgrounds; usually as former employees who decide to branch out on their own. Technical by nature, we often get so focused on how cool the technology is that we lose sight of business needs/problems and the people management aspects of our projects. By far the best way to learn these skills is to seek out others who have done it before and ask them how they did it. These 12 authors definitely provide a good start.

This book is a collection of a few people in the field of IT Consulting. Over all it was good to me because there are things that I don't know, seeing that I am just getting into the IT field. I would say read it if you want to hear what others have to say.
