5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I haven't completely finished reading the book, but I must say that it is very useful and full of wonderful information, provided in an entertaining way. Mr. Grylls enthusiasm in sharing his knowledge is apparent and holds your attention and also helps you to remember his tips (such as figuring out your prioritites in a survial situation - Protection, Rescue, Water,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhere between coffee table book and survival manual, May 28, 2008
First off. I am a big fan of Bear Grylls. I watch his show regularly, and I have read about his climb to the top of Everest. With that said, this book left me a little disappointed. It does have a lot of information in it and glossy pictures but it lacks the nitty gritty info of other survival manuals. For instance; I did not find a list of basic items that should be carried in the bush. Also, the fire making section doesn't really touch on how to use the flint and steel used by Bear in his show. I guess if you are a fan of the show Man vs Wild then this is a good accompaniment. But, if you are looking for a good survival skills book this isn't it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just a coffee table book, January 16, 2009
I'm a big fan of Bear Grylls and the Man Vs. Wild series. That said, this is an interesting read, nice pictures, but it's not much more than a picture album for the Man Vs. Wild series. It makes a very interesting coffee table book. But if you're looking for a true survival manual, look elsewhere (The SAS Survival Handbook is excellent). "The Kid Who Climbed Everest: The Incredible Story of a 23-Year-Old's Summit of Mt. Everest" is also a book by Bear Grylls and is very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, May 13, 2008
I haven't completely finished reading the book, but I must say that it is very useful and full of wonderful information, provided in an entertaining way. Mr. Grylls enthusiasm in sharing his knowledge is apparent and holds your attention and also helps you to remember his tips (such as figuring out your prioritites in a survial situation - Protection, Rescue, Water, Food, summarized in a helpful mnemonic: Please Remember What's First!). I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with an interest in survival techiniques or who just loves the show Man vs. Wild and Bear Grylls!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read, January 20, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I must admit, I purchased this book as a gift but a quick read of a couple pages left me a new fan. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It's well written, the stories are terribly exciting, and it keeps your interest. Who would have thought such interesting people exist in today's world?

5.0 out of 5 stars Man vs. Wild: Survival Techniques from the Most Dangerous Places on Earth, March 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is exactly what I want. It has everything he teaches us in his shows and more. Great for just reading, or keeping as a quick reference guide.
Only down side is the book is kinda big. We could have done with out so many Bear Grylls self pics. But not bad enough to deduct a star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fathers Day Gift Item, June 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have not personally read this book, it was a purchase for my father. He is a bit of a Bear Grylls fanatic. Anyway, to the product:

I can't personally tell you much about this book aside from the fact that my father has been thoroughly enjoying it. As for the delivery and condition, we ordered it and then it arrived a few short days later, very fast shipping. The packaging protected the book perfectly, came in a small box, wrapped in plastic to a sheet of solid cardboard, so the product wasn't harmed at all, perfectly shipped. Thanks again Amazon, everything you guys send me always gets here in a timely manner and is never damaged!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide and read., May 27, 2008
When I first opened the cover, I was greeted by a breath-taking picture of Bear crossing a volcanic area. I knew then that this book would be great.

There is a tremendous amount of knowledge packed into it with some beautiful pictures and excellent illustrations. Bear guides you through the fundamental survival skills (fire making, natural ways to treat illness, making knots, and more), and to the more specific skills for certain terrain types.

There is a lot more information in here that he has yet to reveal in the show. Even you don't watch the show, this book can act as a "Staying Alive in the Wilderness for Newbs" guide and still be useful.

This is a great buy and is fun to read thanks to Bear's magnetic personality. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the outdoors.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a kodak moment..., August 19, 2009
I got this book for my nephew who absolutely adores Bear Grylls. The look on his face when he saw it was worth every penny! I ordered it rather close to his birthday, and was worried it wouldn't come in time. Well, it got here just in time, and I couldn't be more happy with this purchase.
