5.0 out of 5 stars Hear, Hear!, February 26, 2005
This review is from: Born That Way (Audio CD)
I can't imagine writing a review better than the one before me, so I'll just say that I agree with it completely and wholeheartedly. This is the freshest thing I've heard since "Goodbye Horses". A right proper muggins I'd say, old boy, a right proper muggins indeed!

5.0 out of 5 stars A RIGHT ROYALE SON OF THE SOIL!!!!!!!, November 9, 2004
This review is from: Born That Way (Audio CD)
Gulp! Can hardly believe that we will shortly herald the 20th anniversary of the coming of James Maker.

Personally, it's over 150,000 hours since I first encountered the raw, energetic, 'live' experience that was Raymonde.....and boy, what an exhilirating pleasure that proved to be!

Well, the boy is back - and how!!!!!! You'd be a fool of fortune to ignore these 2, Noko 440 assisted, tracks.

Fresh from a welcome dalliance at Old Trafford in July, we find the former uncrowned King of the Coiffeurs neatly ensconced on the nation's 'must have' playlist.......or do we?

3 weeks since I managed to secure a couple of copies of this top notch single release - that, in itself, was no particular simple task......herein lies the fundamental concern.

Take note, Mr Attack Records.....SUPPLY FALLS PAINFULLY SHORT OF DEMAND - sorry James, ever get the feeling that you were "Born That Way"?

James Maker does not flatter to deceive - this music demands to be heard, shared, scrutinised et al - but, alas, it won't!!!!!

Once more, the echoed sentiment of prophet but, not in his own land may be accorded to this exceptional talent.

Led to believe that there are limited supplies of this exceptional lyrical masterpiece (and aesthetically, highly appealing design), one is, once again, left on a "western hill remote" to ponder this sorry state of affairs!

This boy never quite made it into the Champions' League (although, how does one measure success?....."How Can I Make You Understand?" he grits on "Unbearable"....and I see his very point). He taunts the listener with his retort: "Cheap, Loud, Recorded Noise, I was a boy, now I'm a MAN!"

I've got my copies - you should all try and obtain yours (yet, it won't be easy)......They've demolished Raymonde, and changed her name - "there's no therapy or government scheme" but, once you've marvelled at the lyrics, together with the vitality and the orchestration contained herein, you'll be convinced there should be!!!!! Stick this on the school syllabus - NO REMORSE!

The Milk Train may not stop here anymore, however, the Gravy Train might just - one day very soon - and when she does, this boy's riding first class on the 12 o'clock special!
