Book Description

October 1, 1996
Born Of Water discusses the Biblical verses that talk about water baptism in the New Testament. In each chapter, the author presents multiple scriptures and then discusses the various interpretations of the scriptures and why they are correct or errant. The appendices are especially helpful including a study of conversion in the book of Acts, studies of the Greek in Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 2:38, common misinterpretations of conversion doctrines, and what the early Christians stated about baptism.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Those who study seriously the subject of baptism know that, according to the scriptures and earliest Christian practice, baptism was considered to be the door into the kingdom of God. In the New Testament there are dozens of explicit "baptism passages," in addition to a host of baptismal allusions. In the first century, baptism had not yet been reduced to a mere symbol or confessional ritual. It was vital, universal, and part of the new birth. While many acknowledge this, few have taken the time to delve deeply into the New Testament and the early sources. After all, such research can be tedious, and, like all research, time-consuming.

I appreciate Rex Geissler for taking the time to do just this. An intelligent man, a hard worker, and a person of faith, Rex has produced a book that will be of enduring value for new disciples, older Christians, those "immersed" in man-made interpretations of baptism, and all interested in weighing and assessing doctrines against the standard of God's Word.

I also appreciate Rex as a friend, loyal to the cause of Christ and to his brothers and sisters in Christ. He is not afraid of the conclusions to which his study leads because he is not afraid to carry his cross on a daily basis. Further, Rex is an ideas man a non-stop stream of fresh approaches, new concepts, and dreams.

I am sure you will enjoy Born of Water certainly well worth the few dollars you may have spent to obtain it. It is my pleasure to commend this book to you the reader, while commending Rex Geissler for his labor of love. -- Dr. Douglas Jacoby

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Treatment On Baptism, July 18, 2002
This review is from: Born Of Water (Paperback)
Rex Geissler has a heart to make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). This book is devoted, in love, to helping religious people see the truth of what the Bible teaches about baptism. Written in an easy to understand format, this book explores nearly every NT text on baptism, looks at several religious and denominational teachings on salvation such as "the sinner's prayer" or "praying Jesus into your heart." Geissler also has added two appendixes on what the early church fathers taught about baptism and also an examination of the Greek text of Matthew 28:19.

My only reason for not giving this book a 5 star is that Geissler is part of the International Churches of Christ. While I admire the ICOC for its zeal and unity, I have to also add that they hold an unbiblical view of authority and also hold to some traditions of men such as their clergy/laity system (for more on this see Frank Viola's book Rethinking the Wineskins and also Who Is Your Covering?).
