BORN WITHOUT A TAIL,
By Marse (Los Angeles, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Born Without a Tail (Paperback)
An energetic page-turner that catches the reader by surprise. What seems, at first, to be a simple memoir about pets becomes an astounding love story about commitment and responsibility in the face of insurmountable obstacles. Ironically, Cayr Ariel Wulff's riveting adventures with animals - some hilarious, some heartbreaking - become lessons in what it means to be truly human.

The Book That Keeps On Wagging,
By Bob Tarte (Lowell, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Born Without a Tail (Paperback)
You won't find a better group of stories about what it's like to take in rescued dogs and cats than Cayr Ariel Wulff's wonderful book. The distinctive personality of each and every dog and cat comes through, from Dillon, the mutt who seems to understand English, to terror of a kitten Tally. And we also learn how the animals fit into Cayr's life as she and her partner move from the city to a log cabin in a National Forest. Funny and touching, "Born Without a Tail" never flags in interest. It just wags, and wags, and wags. - Bob Tarte, author of "Enslaved by Ducks" and "Fowl Weather."

Hard to put down....,

I couldnt put this book down and stayed up well into the night to finish it. Then when I climbed into bed with my own two rescued dogs, I remembered the passage where the author describes when her "pack" is all settled in for the night, one dog gives out a deep collective "sigh" to signify the end of another wonderful day spent together. My Wookie does that every night and makes me smile. In BORN WITHOUT A TAIL Ms. Wulff shares the life stories of many of the orphans and strays who have blessed her life these past few decades and how each of them has their own little personality and quirks. If you have pets, you will definitely be able to relate and this book will tug at your heart. Dillon so reminds me of my old dog Sam who didnt live long enough, but touched my heart in a way no other dog ever will. I believe every dog owner has that "one" in their life, although they go on to adopt many others. I know Dillon and Sam run together, young and pain free, across the Bridge and wait for us there.

Born without a Tail,
This review is from: Born Without a Tail (Paperback)
A wonderful gentle book about a woman's escapades with all the animals that wander into her life. Not all the stories have happy endings but all are true and written from the heart. I almost felt that the book was being read to me because the writing was so natural and down to earth. All of us animal lovers will see bits and pieces of ourselves in her. This is a lovely book that I will keep and re-read every so often. A terrific book.

What a terrific "feel good" book. Well, written. Leaves you with a sense of hope that there are people who are so compassionate and loving. This is the type of book you want your whole family to read and savour together. I really did not want it to end because I felt so attached to her family of friends and animals. WONDERFUL!

Born Without A Tail shares a life where the author opens the door to her heart by sharing her life with pets, especially dogs and cats, since childhood. The stories told vary from funny to heart warming (not sentimental) and readers will feel graced by the clarity, honesty and caring that comes through.
I also feel that many of these stories would make wonderful bed-time reading by parents and grandparents. A must read for dog lovers.

Animal Lover,
By Margaret "mason's mom" (columbia tn) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Born Without a Tail (Paperback)
If you are an animal lover, this is a wonderful read, just for you! It's full of dog and cat stories that are both inspiring and funny. If you have shared your life with dogs and or cats, there will be at least one story here that you have experienced with your companion animal. All that said, it was also thought provoking around the issues of rescue and euthanasia. I hope Dillon's mom writes more about her animal companions!

An inspiring book....,

I read this book in one day because I simply could not put it down. It was a treat to read about Cayr's childhood with animals and her life of rescuing animals of all sorts. Her dog Dillon lived to be twenty, which is such a testament to the love and care he received throughout his life in this warm and wonderful family. This is a book I will read again and share with others!

For Pet Lovers,

This review is from: Born Without a Tail (Paperback)
This book starts with a young girl wanting a dog and the Christmas gift that was so special. It brought many memories of my own childhood, in a simpler time when dogs were neighborhood pets, and everyone would have the benefit of their wagging tails and doggy kisses! It is filled with pictures, a lovely touch. Her sweet Dillon lived to be the wonderful age of 20 years old, such a tribute to love! You will want to get a few copies to give to friends, it is filled with the joy of being "owned" by a pet!

Cayr Ariel Wulff's artful story-telling shines in this delightful memoir of life amid a pack of frequently ill-mannered though always lovable dogs. Throw in an odd assortment of cats, and chaos ensues as Cayr and her partner get in over their heads, bite off more than they can chew, and generally find themselves railroaded by those who REALLY run the show: their beloved pets! I couldn't put this book down until I'd finished! Hurry up and write the next one, Cayr!
