A must for the discriminating saxophonist.,

Imagine a person with the temporal precision of Bach and the funky groove machine aesthetic of James Brown, and you have Mr. Lenny Pickett.A wonderful album, sure to delight any saxophone player. Playing along with the Borneo horns (saxophone, clarinet), and backed on occasion by drums and ukelele, Pickett has created an album within a uniquely American vernacular. Buy this album.

You've never heard altissimo like this before,

I am a saxophonist in the Marine Corps band and while I attended the Armed Forces School of Music, my instructor played this CD everyday. He said "shut up and listen.....there's a real sax player. Maybe you'll be one someday." He was hard on me, but I do remember hearing Lenny Pickett playing those sky-rocketing altissimo notes that he's known for on Saturday Night Live. I would definitely buy this CD.

Worth the wait to find it...,

I had been looking to buy this CD for a couple of years. I noticed that it's been a little hard to find, at a decent price anyways. I bought my copy on eBay recently. I got lucky and got it for $35. It is well worth it. As a sax player, Lenny Pickett is one of my most inspirational saxophone players. He has such control in the upper register, and has that sound that fits so well with a horn section or as a soloist in the funk/soul genres.
I don't suppose that this album is particularly commercially viable, hence the reason why it is not produced anymore and is a rare find. But, if you are a saxophone player/aficionado, and are a fan of Lenny Pickett, then this is a great album to add to your collection. It's funky and displays some very fluid horn lines as well as some unique arrangements and original ideas. It's a work of art, and the only album that I know of that Lenny Pickett released as a bandleader (which is rather unfortunate, considering what a great player he is).

I've been listening to this album for 15 years and I still hear new and great things with every listen. My only complaint is that there isn't much more recorded output from Lenny Pickett than this and the handfull of ToP & SNL records.

My man Lenny,Right on. That is an unbeliveable example of music know how. I really enjoyed it. I only wish that I could play as well as he does. It took me a long time to find this album and I won't let it get away from me. Best wishes to Lenny Pickett and the Saturday Night Band, you guys are the best! Dominick DOnofrio |
