Being that this bowl is from the same company which produces the mandoline I bought at the same time, I thought they would work well together. The bowl does not have a non-slip bottom and slides all over the place when one attempts to use the two in combination. I thought the mandoline and bowl might interlock somehow, but no. Save your money, slice your food items onto the countertop and then scrape them into a bowl you already own.

I just got this and it is pretty flimsy plastic and also slides around - the mandoline slots into it but feels a bit precarious. It's also hard to store because it's an odd shape.

I'm keeping this just because there's no better alternative - but wish there was a version made of more robust material with a no-skid bottom.

Use a bit of Duck 1100732 Non-Adhesive Select Easy Shelf Liner, Jumbo Roll, 12-Inch Wide, 20-Square-Feet, White under the bowl. I keep it handy for so many uses in the kitchen I can't count them. I understand you can even line shelves with it, if you're into that sort of thing.

Or, instead of this bowl, you could just slice onto a flexible cutting board like Norpro Cut-N-Slice Flexible Cutting Boards, Set of 3 and save the scraping, and for that matter, needing this bowl. A bit of shelf liner would be helpful under this as well.

I ordered the Swissmar Borner V-Slicer Pro Mandoline V-4000, 7-Piece Set several months ago but really had not been using it. I saw the bowl accessory on Borner's site and ordered it from Amazon. They literally placed the bowl in the box with bubble wrap; I thought that was tacky [Amazon].

Anyhow, there are no instructions but the V-4000 has two legs a few inches away from the hand grip that fit in the bowl to "lock". Then you hold the grip and bowl edge to keep the bowl steady as you use the other hand to glide the the veggie over the blade. It took me a few times to get a nice rhythm and with getting it locked in good. Since then, I use the V-4000 weekly and try to do as much in batches as possible. Like the mandoline, I rinse/wash as soon as using to prevent any staining or odors from marinating.

Overall I rank this 4.5 but I had to doc a .5 star because of the poor packaging, no instructions, and this should just be offered as a part of the V-4000 package.

The bowl is handy. It's not entirely clear how it fits with at least the V3 slicer, but it does fit into the slot. Some sliced material can slip out the end past the blade onto the counter, since the end of the slicer is not closed off. Also there is nothing under the bowl to keep it from sliding around on the counter. Other than this, it's nice and easy to use. It's much larger than it look in the online picture -- not sure why such a small view is given. It's not elegant at all for serving - it's just a plastic bowl after all.

This baby works great with the Borner mandoline. Before, I'd slice food by hand and transfer it from the cutting board to a bowl before adding preservative. Now I pour lemon juice directly into the Borner bowl so that fruit slices keep their color. Or I mix olive oil and oregano in the bowl, then use the Borner mandoline to slice and spice tomatoes without that intermediate step.

Bought this to go with my Borner madoline and it works great. Provides stable base for cutting items, Catchs most of the items, some jump out the side of the bowl, and is very easy to clean.
