Five Stars - Top Rate CD,
By
This review is from: Old New Borrowed & Blue (Audio CD)
Reviews of this group are not sufficient without dropping a few names for comparison. If Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey or Janis Joplin were alive today, they would be singing with the Uppity Blues Women. Truth to tell, with modern recording techniques on her side, these other ladies are no real match for Ann Rabson's booming voice and sexy piano work. Do Your Duty, The Clock and Life Goes On are easily worth the price of the CD. There is really no choice but to rate this a full 5 stars. I would be disappointed if the average were anything less. This is the one - if you have made it this far and still don't own this CD, buy it today - here or someplace else, I don't care. Don't put this opportunity off till another time; do your duty!

Saffire really reaches into a woman's soul.,

My sister turned me on to the Uppity Blues Women a few years ago. They are spokeswomen's for weomen of all ages. Song's like "Fools Night Out" allows you look at life from the perspective of the "Man In The Moon". Just when you thought you had your woman under control you realize you got a "Bitch With A Bad Attitude" a real lesson about a woman scorned."Do Your Duty" is a constant reminder that if you better not slack off in the Lovin' Department. " How Can I Say I Miss You" remindes us that it's really hard to miss someone when you can't get them to leave. Saffire and the Uppity Blues Women are excellent they can make every woman stand up a little taller and hold their head higher just because they are WOMEN. Their motto should be "Women Rule"

Only a fool would pass these ladies up,

I have always been a blues fan. One day while looking through Napster for new music, I came across these ladies. I was hooked. I immediately purchased every album they ever made. To call these ladies just another "band" is an insult to their talents. They are more a voice of today's women. Even though men will enjoy their rhythm and melodic overtures, only a woman can appreciate the true sultry heart felt lyrics. Even if you are not a blues fan, you are doing yourself an injustice by passing up this true bond of womanhood. We can all relate to what they are singing about. And fortunately, we can all laugh too. I applaud their ability to ignore the mainstream stereotypes and sing from the heart. I wish I could thank them in person for being the role model they have become for others and myself.
