From the Manufacturer

The totally redesigned BULLDOG Xtreme outlasts the competition in both speed and performance. Multi-function selector has 3 modes of operation: rotary hammer, hammer-only and rotation-only mode. Vario-Lock Positioning rotates and locks chisel into 36 different positions to optimize working angle. The patented rotating brush plate provides equal power in forward and reverse. Cord turret has a 35-degree pivot for added flexibility and longer cord life. SDS-plus bit system tool-free bit changes with automatic bit locking, dust protection and maximum impact energy transfer rate. Variable-speed reversing trigger for accurate bit starting as well as removing fasteners or bound bits. Integral clutch helps minimize torque reaction. The 11255VSR has a comfortable D-handle grip design for greater control, especially when drilling overhead or downward.

There are several reasons why this drill is better than other hammer drills I have (Craftsman and DeWalt). The way Bosch designed this drill let a lone the power it has, makes it stand alone. I'm not going to dwell on the power ( even though I was able to completely chip away a shower mortar bed in less than 10 minutes), what made the difference is the design. First let me say that quick change SDS chuck and bits make this worth while. If you have done a lot of drilling you know how frustrating it is when you have to continually stop and re-tighten bits that have come loose from binding in the concrete. SDS eliminates this, along with the ease of the quick bit change also prevents the need to keep looking for a chuck key. Not once did I have the bit loose up.

Bosch also made it easy with how they implemented the auxiliary handle and depth guide. Other manufactures make you completely remove parts in order to change the handle position or change the depth guide. Another excellent feature is the Vario-Lock which will allow you to change the orientation of the chipping bit without having to hold the drill or yourself in awkward situations that might even be dangerous.

The clutching mechanism actually works very well. The times when I did bind the bit (which was rare with the drill power) I had little torque transfer before the clutch caught. Which is comforting from a safety aspect.

For the power, the drill is comfortable with a decent length cord. I haven't been using this drill long, so I can't speak to the reliability. Regardless the design and power has me sold and I've been using DeWalt for years.

Also one thing that is a pet peeve of mine (although minor) is the way manufacturers position the outlet of the power cord.

I am in the construction business and i can tell anyone who is looking at this product that it is truly an indispensible tool. It drills through brick and concrete with ease. It is relatively light for its power and size and is very easy and comfortable to use. At this price point you cannot do any better. Highly recommended.

I had to drill sixty 3/4" diameter 2" deep holes in my concrete pool deck for anchors for a pool cover. I used this drill and a bosch SDS masonry bit. It drilled each hole in about 15 seconds. I could not believe how fast it was able to do it. This is a great product. Worth every penny. I haven't used it for chipping yet, but I don't doubt it will work fine for that, too.

i am in the remodeling business an i do alot of baths an nine out of ten jobs i have to move the drain lines from one end of the room to the other, an before, i always had to cut a line with a masonary blade in my skill saw then go rent a jack hammer to finish the job, as most already know this is a very messy job, but since i bought this tool it's all i need. i just drill an outline with a 1/2 inch drill bit then switch to a chipping bit an in a few minutes the job is done with very little mess an no heavy jack hammer to lugg around.i very highly recomend this tool, infact the first chance i get i will buy another just for back-up in-case i need the same tool on two defferent jobs..

We have a stamped concrete patio that the previous owners had covered with Chattahoochee Rock. (Don't EVER do this by the way! You will regret it and will have to chisel it all up someday when you realize how wretched the stuff is!)

My husband and I have contemplated how to get rid of this stuff for a few years. We think about it, then decide to revisit the issue "next year", mainly because there is no way to get it up that doesn't cost a lot of money and might ruin the concrete underneath in the process.

We got an estimate from a contractor who said it would be at least $1000 to remove it, and no guarantee that the concrete would be in decent condition underneath. We decided to wait a bit more while I researched it.

There really isn't a lot of discussion about removing Chattahoochee online. I found a few posts, but there was a lot of disagreement as to how to go about it.

I went to a rental place that said I'd need to rent a jackhammer with a tile blade, and that would be $75 a day. I figured this was a job that would take a few days, so I hesitated.

I came to Amazon and searched for a tool similar to the one that the rental place had suggested. I found this Bosch 11255VSR BULLDOG Xtreme 1-Inch SDS-plus D-Handle Rotary Hammer. One of the reviewers had used it on Chattahoochee Rock! (Thanks for your review--it was so helpful!)

We ordered the tool, and a wider blade (though you are limited to how wide a blade you can get for this model--we ordered this one: Bosch HS1425 SDS-plus Shank Hammer Steel - 1-1/2-Inch x 10-Inch Wide Chisel Self-sharpening--you can get it here.)

When it came we tried it out. Let me just say that it was amazing!

I am in no way a pro and decided instead of constantly renting a hammer drill I would invest in one.

By far the best investment ever and it really does go into brick like butter. I'm happy to say that I have had no issues aside from accidentally touching the HOT bit. I have drilled approximately 50+ holes in the concrete and the 7piece SDS bit set has not been damaged or had any loss in performance.

As a DIY person I recommend this to anyone for the price.

The guiding ROD that is there removes the rig job of having to put tape around the bit for the correct depth and it does hold in place very well when pushed against the wall. I have put my whole weight with the drill and it will stop the drill from going past the rod settings.

Not really a down side but the hand itself is not able to rotate fully around the rod but there is a awesome fix for that. Unscrew the handle and just pull the handle off, adjust to where you want it and it will slide into place but won't rotate due to some limitation but it has in no way slowed me down or caused issues.

Next purchase is the chisel bit :-)
