5.0 out of 5 stars The Standard
This is the best jigsaw made. Period. This saw has all of the features you could ever look for in a saw. The blade guides provide a very accurate cut, while the orbital action allows you to cut through any wood like butter. The blower keeps your line of vision clear, and changing blades is a snap, a huge improvement over the older Bosch style. The motor has the least...

3.0 out of 5 stars Blade change gets 2 thumbs down.
I bought this to replace the crummy B&D jig saw I had. I spent an hour working with the blade change system. I folowed the instructions in the manual and found the procedure to be cumbersome and illogical. After the first time, I didn't hear the "clicks" at the right times anymore. I returned it and got the Bosch 1590. Push a lever and slide the blade in. Push the...

The blade guides provide a very accurate cut, while the orbital action allows you to cut through any wood like butter. Simply a great saw.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome, September 12, 2000
This review is from: Bosch 1587AVS Top Handle Jig Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
Bosch has put the power in this saw to cut through any material you might feed it, and the finess to cut dead on accuracy. The quick blade release makes changovers fast and will not losen your blade once its locked in. If your take pride and time in your work, then the Bosch 1587AVS will make it that much easier for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can cope., July 14, 2002
This review is from: Bosch 1587AVS Top Handle Jig Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this jig saw to use with the Collins Coping Foot that I bought to be able to cope crown moldings quickly. I bought the Coping foot to go with a Chraftsman saw that I have, but upon arrival it was obvious the two would never mate up.
I went and quickly bought the Bosch and am glad I did. I have never had a GOOD jig saw before, and this one is an enormous improvement over those $49 specials I have had in the past.
I also use it as a Tiger saw about half the time, just cause it is at hand. Tiger saw would be cheaper, but it don't cope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Jig Saw on the Market, October 5, 2000

What a difference from the Craftsman I've been using. This saw is very powerful and smooth as silk. The quick change blade mechanism is the best, no more fumbling with allen wrenches or screwdrivers. All-in-all a top notch machine, best one I've seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best jigsaw on the market?, January 14, 2005
This review is from: Bosch 1587AVS Top Handle Jig Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I don't know, but I wouldn't trade it for anything except maybe the newer model.

The blade change mechanism was a bit tricky at first, but has worked flawlessly once I got it adjusted properly, which took all of 5 minutes to figure out. Just keep turning it open until you can rotate the blade.

Changing the bevel angle is also a bit of a pain, but it's solid and once set it stays that way. And the allen wrench needed to change it stores at the base of the cord, so it's always handy.

the plastic base is great when working with delicate surfaces, and the (almost) zero clearance insert also works great to prevent tearout.

Using a combination of the 4 orbital settings and the fully adjustable blade speed allows you to make great cuts in just about anything from soft wood to plastics to metal.

It's also smooth as silk, and the dust blower keeps the cut line visible.

Great blades only add to what this saw is capable of doing, and the Bosch Progressor blades are amazing.

I'm sure there are other great jigsaws on the market, but I don't feel the need to look any further than this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars accountant62, May 4, 2011
This review is from: Bosch 1587AVS Top Handle Jig Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
Smooth running, excellent saw, BUT blade changes are always an adventure and the base plate attachment is junk. I can live with the blade changes. How many turns? Is the top pulled up enough? Eventually you get the old blade out. But I am on my 3rd base plate. It is held on by one large allen head screw which sits in a cross shaped slot for adjusting forwards and backwards and to the left and right for angles. The metal at the intersections of the cross breaks and then you are out another $17 plus shipping.

...if I had read the reviews before I bought it. But I didn't. I went into Home Depot and looked at the demo model, liked the weight and balance, and bought it. I took me a few tries to get the blade in. It did come in and out more easily after a few times. It cuts nice, though. I replaced a 40 year old B&D promo model saw, when the switch finally went out. I should have just replaced the switch on the B&D.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had not bought this, March 27, 2008

From reading the good reviews this tool received, I thought the warnings of blade removal/insertion problems were probably from user lack of reading instructions or brute force. I am a woman with over 20 years experience with power tools, I read and follow instructions carefully, and I do not force things to their breaking point. However, after one use with this tool, instructions in hand (having been forewarned), I went to change the blade. Though I followed instructions to the letter, I couldn't get the blade out. Again and again I tried, not knowing what I was doing wrong. The top plastic piece then broke right off leaving me in the middle of a job with no tool to finish. This tool looks brand new; I had purchased it, used it once, then didn't need it again until after the store would take it back. They really messed up on this one. It doesn't matter how good it runs if you can't get a blade in and out.
