Bosch 1590EVSL 120-Volt Top Handle Jigsaw Kit

The recently introduced Bosch1590EVSLsupersedes the similar Bosch1590EVSK, which came out in 2004.

All professional grade jigsaws have a slotted roller guide (above the footplate) that the blade rides in, to stabilize the blade. This Bosch saw also has user-activated blade rubbing blocks below the roller guide, even closer to the workpiece. The blocks are featured on Bosch 1590 & 1591 jigsaws, and perform the same function as bandsaw blocks -- keeping the blade straight while cutting. See the Customer Image of the roller & blocks, then look closely at the best Milwaukee, Makita, or DeWalt jigsaws - and observe that they only have a blade roller guide.

At a recent Woodworking show, I asked the Bosch representative why their JS series jigsaws lacked the rubbing blocks. He said they wanted to keep the cost down on the JS models, so the blocks are only included on their two best saws (the 1590 & 1591).

This blade stability system makes for squarer cuts than my 8-year-old Bosch model 1587 jigsaw, which has the blade roller guide only. No jigsaw has zero blade deflection since the blade isn't supported from the "bottom" (as on a scroll saw). In fact, even on a saw this good, the blade can be made to slant to one side, IF the saw is pushed to one side while cutting.

If you've never used a jigsaw with a quick-change blade system, you'll absolutely love it. A "T" blade can be popped out in a second or two without touching it, and it only takes a few seconds to install a new one. This saw only weighs 6 lbs, has minimal vibration, a dust-blower with an off/on switch, and a clever new tool box. The non-marring plastic footplate works fine. I really like that the footplate is the tool-less type, rather than needing an allen wrench to adjust it, as some saws require. The handle is comfortable, the switch has no places that pinch your fingers, and it feels like a professional tool in your hands. The speed control knob at the back of the motor sets the maximum speed; the trigger varies the speed from 0 to that maximum setting. The electronic feedback circuitry maintains full power even at the lower speeds. It's made in Switzerland.

If you've only used Harry Homeowner model jigsaws such as Ryobi, Skil, Black & Decker, or even the cheaper models of the professional brands, this saw will be a revelation.

At 6.4 amps, there is no more powerful jigsaw on the market and none that has the blade stability features of this one. Other than Festool models, this might be the most costly jigsaw; but of course, top-of-the-line tools are expensive. If you prefer the barrel-gripped style, check out the Bosch 1591EVSL.

I've been wanting a good jigsaw, so I finally bit the bullet to help put in an engineered wood floor. I also bought Bosch's laminate floor blade kit, and this thing cuts like butter. I originally planned to just use this for the notches and a few curves, but it cuts so well that I used it for all the cuts. I was using a portable table saw for ripping the flooring and a miter saw for the cross cuts. This thing cuts extremely straight, and is easy to control. It's also light weight, and I don't have to take time to setup the fence on the table saw. I haven't used it for any other projects, but so far I am extremely happy. Oh yeah, I almost forgot that the saw is Swiss made as opposed to Chinese like a lot of tools these days. It seems to be well built, and a good tool that will last a long time.

In the past I had been borrowing my brother's el-Cheapo made-in-China jigsaw when I needed one for a small job. Frustrated at how imprecise and wandering the thing was, and how terrible it made my work look, I borrowed a friend's older Bosch. WOW - what a difference! Next thing ya know, I bought this one, and it's several steps above and beyond the one I borrowed even. So much fun to make accurate smooth cuts and not worry about the saw veering to and fro across lines - and the blades cut so well I am blown away. Great product, great case, great build quality.

I recently purchased the Bosch 1590EVSL Jig Saw Kit. I spent about 6 hours with it in my shop today cutting both wood and hard surface materials. It has exceptional power. This jig saw replaced another Bosch jig saw which just went belly up after 8 years of heavy use. I am a woodworker. The button on the front of the jig saw allows you to tighten the blade almost eliminating blade flex entirely. This is especially good for doing detail work in that it allows you to truly follow your layout lines, thus reducing sanding time. In additon loading blades is truly a one handed operation and the blade ejection works great when either changing blades or having to remove a blade that has broken. Though the blower function does not work as well as on past Bosch models, the dust extraction is very effective and fits any standard shop vac hose. Given Bosch invented the Jig Saw, it appears through thoughtfull engineering and innovation, they have managed to stay at the front of the pack even after more than 50 years. The only draw back besides the less than impressive blower is the wired safety guard that sits in front of the jig saw which blocks the view of the blade's track forcing one to have to get a little too close to the blade in order to keep the cutter true to a line. Otherwise, I feel I got my monies worth and I don't think anyone will be disappointed with this selection.

This is my second Bosch 1590 jigsaw. I'm still using my first one and have been for 5 years with zero trouble. It is so easy to change blades, is very accurate, and has so much power that I use it more than any other cutting tool in my shop. I needed a second saw for an out of state project so naturally, this was my first choice. It came with a newer case, which is pretty nice, but not any better than the case I got 5 years ago. The black insert is made of flimsy plastic, which I doubt will last very long - but the case is rather peripheral and will still be useful without the form-fitting insert. Although on the expensive side, the saw is awesome and I'm glad I now have two of them!

Great deal, delivery, and tool. Works great. The other reviews were right on. Vibration is low, control of cuts is easy, and speed control is great for different materials and blade selection. Plenty of power. Controls and adjustments are easy to undertand and use.

Well crafted, solid, accurate, easy to use, what is not to like?

I also do not understand the few comments I've seen about the case this comes in.

The case is much more substantial than most and there is plenty of room to store blades, the included vac hook-up parts, the protection shoe and etc.

Without question one of the nicest tools I've purchased and I've purchased a great many in my 40 year of wood-working.

My old jigsaw, a cheap brand, decided to let sparks fly. The Bosch saw was my choice for a replacement although the price was way over what I wanted to spend. So far it's been worth the difference. No more sparks and no excessive vibration. The quick change, no key blade, is great especially since my eyesight and strength leaves something to be desired when trying to tighten that old hex bolt connection. Changing blades on this one is a snap but what is even better, I don't have to remove the blade to get the saw back in its box..which also means not having to put a blade back in when I want to use it. This saw is very easy to handle. If an old lady can work with this it should be a piece of cake for the younger more agile users. I haven't used mine very much as yet but I tried one out at a wood working show. The Bosch rep at the show gave me quite a few tips as well. So Far, I'll give the Bosch 1590EVSL a 5 star rating.

As far as affordable pieces of professional equipment goes, this jigsaw is worth its weight. I have used numerous other jigsaws and after purchasing and using this bosch saw I am sorry for every time I have used any other jigsaws. I do have to say that there is one exception, the Festool Jigsaw is still superior to this one. Though the 400 plus price tag will keep most from purchasing it. The bosch is smooth, comfortable, it is one of the only saws with extra blade supports to keep your cut straight up and down when cutting thick or precise material. The blower is OK, its not going to keep all dust out of your line of site. The only thing I dislike about this saw is the cheesy wire safety in front of the blade. I am actually going to cut it off next time I use it. Over all you can't beet this saw for the money.
