This review is from: Bosch 1591EVSK 6.4 Amp Barrel Grip Jigsaw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I hate jigsaws, they junp all over the place, the blades are a pain to change, and the cut is crappy. but this saw is amazing. I have owned this saw for two years now and it has completely changed my view of the jigsaw. first it is smooth, so smooth you could call it smoooove.....the variable speed is great and it doesn't jump around at all. second, the blade changes are so fast and ridiculously easy that I will never again use a dull blade or the wrong blade just because I'm in a hurry. third and most importantly, because it makes the most beautiful cut I have ever seen from a saw of this type. I cut a piece a plexiglass with it the otherday and it cut like butter and there was not one gouge in the cut surface and not one chip on the edge it was perfectly smooth and square and it was so easy to control I nearly cried. It seems like every time I put this saw away I forget a little just how nice it is and then rediscover it and marvel at it each time I take it out....it's that good. buy it!

Bosch 1591EVSK Gets it Right,
This review is from: Bosch 1591EVSK 6.4 Amp Barrel Grip Jigsaw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have used many different jig saws in the past, although all were top handle models. The barrel grip Bosch is the finest unit I have used. The control with the barrel grip is far superior to top handle models. Cutting is superb and intricate scrolling work is no problem for this saw. The tool-less blade change system is the best around, and in orbital mode this thing will rip through wood like a beaver on steroids! The only drawbacks are that with the slide switch instead of a trigger you give up a little on ease of speed control, although the rear speed control is easy to reach. Also the dust blower only works really well at higher speeds. If you need a jig saw then you need a Bosch, and if you want precise control then try the barrel grip as it is a truly outstanding tool.

Amazing power and control,

This is only my second jig saw, but coming from a black and decker jig saw I may be a little too easily impressed. But this jig saw is incredible. It has great control, and depending on the selected orbital action, it will either make very clean cuts and cut, in the words of another reviewer, like a beaver on steroids. With the anti-splinter insert, I got no tearout on birch plywood. I highly recommend this jig saw!

Get Serious with your jig saws... Get a Bosch 1591EVSK,

.Bosch invented them, black and decker destroyed Em! This is the most accurate barrel grip we have in our cabinet and door company. This tool is just outstanding! I have a small problem with my right hand, turning my wrist is getting harder the more I build! The ease of this tool in rotation gives me dead on cuts every time. If your working out a large template on a 4 X 8 sheet of 9 ply not a problem this tool will eat wood all day long! The very problem most cabinet makers have is the saw dust getting on the cut line... Not with this tool. Directional air blows the lines clean for a perfect cut every time! I have to give this tool a 9.5 out of 10. Worth every dime!!

I install cabinets for a living, so I like to buy tools that will last which is why I chose Bosch, the saw works great making nice steady cuts. The plastic boot that was supplied for the base had rough edges which will gouge up any finish the cord is too long if youwant to use the case. The body is very long making it tough to use in confined spaces, still haven't gotten use to the always on feature, meaning switch on or switch off, no trigger.

This review is from: Bosch 1591EVSK 6.4 Amp Barrel Grip Jigsaw (Tools & Home Improvement)
Even though the older, very capable model is now available at discount, I splurged for the new 1591EVSK with the case. I opted for the Amazon credit card and free shipping for a total of $159. It is a replacement for a Sears unit that just turned 40.Smooth, quiet, precise; can't ask for more. The barrel grip is very good at controlling all that weight and power. The Bosch blades are really nice (I really wanted that 30-blade assortment that is not available at this time). Blade changes are easy and will make it more likely that users will switch to the proper blade during different phases of a project. The on-off switch is pretty clumsy and the fan action is a little weak at low speeds. Still, this is a great tool and is highly recommended.

Blade guides do not "reciprocate",
By
This review is from: Bosch 1591EVSK 6.4 Amp Barrel Grip Jigsaw (Tools & Home Improvement)
The blade guides, called "reciprocating pawls" by another reviewer, do not reciprocate. They can be adjusted a tiny bit, with an allen bolt, so they do not pinch tightly onto the blade. In operation, they can be opened or closed with a red lever on the port side of the saw. The controls are well laid out for each function. The blade guides are a bit above the workpiece, and a bit bigger than the Festool Trion, and the whole saw is close toa pound heavier and bigger. While the Trion is about $100 more then the Bosch 1591, it is the smaller size, smoothness, lightness, and fitment/design, that got this old carpenter with arthritis to spring for the Festool. The Bosch is still a wonderful deal... and I borrow a buddies on the jobsite whenever he isn't looking! I give it only one-half star less the the 5 star Festool. 4.5 out of 5.0.

Having always used top handle jig saws in the past,I thought I would replace my stolen jig saw with this inovative barrel grip style. It is everything as advertised. The barrel grip is easy to hold and control, better in my opinion that top handle styles. This saw is powerful and easily powers through stock. The only thing I could suggest improvement on is the Power Switch. It is a thin surface mounted switch that is a bit difficult to operate. For me, in one handed operation, it requires me to extend my thumb an unnatural distance to turn it on and the same to turn it off. So with the saw running, I have to extend my arm and contortion my thumb to turn it off. This issue is minor trust me, the saw in total more than makes up for it.

Absolutely incredible,

I just can't get over this saw! While I didn't know it at the time, the jigsaws I've used in the past were primitive pieces of junk. This saw is incredibly smooth when running. The body grip style keeps your hand low to the work such that pushing the saw through wood is very natural feeling. It is so comfortable you will find yourself effortlessly doing scroll work even in hard woods. The tool-free adjustable foot and "One Touch Blade Change" are awesome. The 1591 has plenty of power to cut through thick stock and the orbital action can make for some very aggressive cutting. The electronic speed control maintains a constant stroke rate. Combined with Bosch's great Progressor blades the saw makes unbelievably smooth cuts. I was stunned to see how smooth the cuts were...almost as good my cherished bandsaw. A little sanding and voila! instant gratification. If you're in the market for a jigsaw, grab this and have the time of your life making sawdust. Highly recommended.

The Best Jig Saw,
By
This review is from: Bosch 1591EVSK 6.4 Amp Barrel Grip Jigsaw (Tools & Home Improvement)
Someone finally got it right!Starting with the blade install/removal. You push the blade into place. That's it, no tools, no twists, no turns or other mechanicions. Removal is even easier! Slide the release lever and the blade is ejected! This is the perfect blade handling system!! The barrel design offers better control than traditional "top handle" models. For some this may be a matter of preference. This tool is an extension of my hand. The (retractable) blade guide offers excellent stability for the blade. This is especially useful when cutting thicker (over 3/4") stock. This feature greatly reduces the blades tendency to "wonder" to the outside of a curve cut. This feature would typically not be used for sheet metal. At over 6 amps, the 1591 is among the most powerful jig saws made. Despite the power, this unit is relatively vibration free. This is especially important for a barrel grip design, where you are basically holding the motor body. I have found this tool to be powerful enough to replace many reciprocating saw applications, while offering lighter weight and greater control. The lone drawback to this design is the slide switch. While the speed is thumb wheel variable, it does not offer the variable speed trigger, common in top handle models (aka Bosch 1590). I have (and love) both models, but usually reach for the barrel grip model. If a variable speed trigger were available on the barrel grip model, the saw would be perfect. |
