5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool---New blade supplier?
This is a great tool. I am using it for cutting the bottom of door jambs while installing ceramic flooring. My only difficulty was finding replacement blades. I found them reasonably priced at [another website].... Apparantly Amazon[.com] only wants to sell the tool and not the consumables.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bosch Power Handsaw
I bought this saw to cut off the bottom of door jambs which this saw does very well. I was very disappointed with the miter box attachment, you have to clamp every piece that you cut and if you don't it vibrates the wood that you are cutting, as a finish carpenter i found this attachment to be worthless, but it did great on the free hand flush cutting. Overall it's...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the little jobs, April 7, 2002

I bought this for cutting picture frame molding, and I have been completely satisfied. This product provides an alternative to the larger, louder miter saws. Of course, it can't completely replace the miter saw, since it will only cut through stock less than 2.5" in width. I used this saw to cut through picture frame molding at 45 degrees. I used the fine blade, and it quickly cut through, producing a smooth, tear-free joint. This is a good product if you don't have the space for a miter saw, or you need something more portable. It can also be operated freehand, but I have yet to try that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comes to the rescue!, June 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bosch 1640VSPKG Fine Cut Power Handsaw Package (Tools & Home Improvement)
I am a professional remodeler and have just about every tool on the market. I don't use it that often but this little saw comes to the rescue when no other can do the job. It's great at making perfect cuts on wall trim while the trim is on the wall (a rotary tool, sawzall, circular saw can also do this but with less accuracy) . It is very powerful for its size. The only drawback is that the blades are not designed to cut through metal (old houses are full of hard nails in unimaginable places) but a sales rep indicated that they are working on a metal cutting blade. All of my friends in the business are amazed at this saw and I can't understand why they all don't own one. Good job Bosch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bosch 1640VSPKG worth the money at the right price, February 19, 2003

I received my Bosch 1650VSPKG via UPS yesterday. I was impressed with the speedy processing and delivery of my order (ordered Friday and received on Tuesday). The price was to my liking with a $10 coupon plus FREE shipping.

The small manual was printed on less than quality paper, but the instruction were straight forward.

The first thing I did was fine-tune the blade alignment; needed was a small T-square, small crescent wrench and a blade screwdriver.

I recommend permanently mounting the miter table attachment to a solid surface to eliminate viberation [that are likely to be caused by the loosening of the furnished mounting clamps].

Another suggestion would be to construct "extention wings", i.e., 6" to 12" on each end of the [pemanentaly mounted] Miter Table, to handle and stable the excessive lengths of wood.

I don't think the Workclamp is adequate to sufficiently hold the wood being cut. I'd suggest using a pair of hand spring clamps to do this job by clamping them over the Workpiece Fence holding the wood to be cut.

Replacement blades are available on a couple other websites. There was about a $2 differents per blade between the two websites I located.

The only drawback of this packaged deal was the flimsey carrying case. But, I can live with that.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

A very clever tool with magnificent performance! This isn't a replacement for your circular saw or Sawzall (tm). But when you need it, absolutely nothing else on-the-market will do the job. Easily cuts through even when you need to begin your cut mid-sheet or mid-board -- with no pilot holes or wasteful pre-cuts. Surprisingly powerful, yet easy to handle even in awkward or confined spaces. I've never purchased a Bosch power tool, so can't yet comment on reliability. Regardless, this one is a real winner.

I purchased this tool while remodeling my mothers bathroom and bedroom. It was purchased for cutting moulding and other small things. Works great and the miter is very correct. Everyone that does finish work of any kind should own one of these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest little saw on earth, April 11, 2002

I bought this saw because I was visiting a friend, and she wanted new base in her bathrooms, and kitchen. Of course my tools were 800 miles away.

This saw is amazing. It comes with it's own miter box, with a port that fits a standard vacume hose. Small and light weight enough to mount on a saw horse and carry easily from room to room, It cut perfect miters for the outside corners, and easily adjusted to just off 90 degrees for the coped joints in the inside corners. And the clincher is, one wing screw, a ten second blade change, and its off the little miter box ready to use as a flush trim saw for installing flooring.

With this saw and the new Porter Cable battery powered brad gun, your ready to go.

My husband bought this saw after trying to install wood flooring in our home that was built in 1910 and had 6 inch oak door casings. He had tried using the common hand saw but when it took an hour to cut thru one side of a door casing gave up. This saw cut thru the wood with no problem and gave a fine cut that did not damage the trim, the miter attatchment was hard to clamp onto a saw horse without vibrating loose but that was overcome with practice and gave accurate clean cuts. It is worth the money if you don't want to waste time and demand good results.

This saw is great for fine cuts and getting into tight places. However, wider use is not practical due to the very fine blades that come with the saw. The only problem I have is finding replacement blades and/or coarser blades.
