5.0 out of 5 stars It Was Love at First Cut, September 13, 2009
This review is from: Bosch 1677M 7-1/4-inch 120V Wormdrive Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I picked up my Bosch 1677M a few years back with some birthday money, so now a few years later I've had a chance to use it a lot. I own several wormdrived saws (Skil, Rigid, and Bosch) but I always seem to use my Bosch 1677M the most. It's 15 amps, I like the magnesium shoe plate, and it sounds and feels very smooth when your are making your cuts. I made myself a 4 foot cutting guide specificly for this saw, so I can always make straight cuts on sheet goods. The saw exudes quality. I had a contractor I hired at my condo in SoCal replacing a huge beam on my balcony. His circular saw quit on him, so I let him borrow my Bosch 1677M to make some of his cuts. He loved it, and said he may buy himself one! The saw came standard with the rafter hook(nice), and has turned out to be what I would expect from Bosch, a GREAT saw. I use a Freud 24T framing blade for 2x lumber and a Freud 40T blade for my sheet goods. Use good blades, and change the oil ocassionally, and it should last a lifetime. It just one of those tools that every time I use it, it makes me happy. I'm so glad I bought it. Very highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big on power, short on features, May 30, 2010
This review is from: Bosch 1677M 7-1/4-inch 120V Wormdrive Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
As a professional timber framer I purchased the Bosch 7 1/4" worm drive as a workhorse. I need lots of horse power to make deep cuts all day in heavy timber and this saw does not disappoint. That said, I'd like to see a few improvements:
The saw's table tilt, like most circular saws, is not at all accurately gaged and has no real detents. Most carpenters might not care, but I'm cutting to angles frequently, and I need to set them with a bevel guage, because I can't rely on this saw's angle indicator. Even the 45 is not a given.
Same goes for depth adjustment: the scale on the metal slide is nearly useless.
This saw is incredibly torquey. It's almost impossible to bog down. When I pull the trigger, it jumps so much that I need to be sure nothing is in the way. A soft start feature would be appreciated.
Pulling 12 amps, you need to be sure to feed this saw enough power. A 14 gage, 100' cord on a 15 amp circuit won't push it to it's maximum ability.
All that said, this saw has tons of power, is very sturdy, and takes lots of abuse. A real workhorse.

Chris
