Heavy Duty Grinder for the Metal shop,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bosch 1810PS 4-1/2-Inch Paddle Switch Grinder with Lock-On Switch (Tools & Home Improvement)
I own two other 4 1/2 inch grinders besides this one. My Made in China $24 grinder that I was using with a cupped wire brush finally bit the dust. I went looking for Quality this time around and wanted to purchase Made in USA. But this Bosch won out, over a Dewalt, because it was the only one that was a "true" all ball / needle bearing construction. It has lots of power and the paddle switch saved my bacon when on a trial run using a metal cutting disk, the disk caught and shattered (I AWAYS wear safety glasses and gloves when grinding). On my other grinders with a thumb switch... that 1/2 second to find the switch & flip it off... would have been too long. Draw backs, the grinder seems to have more vibration and noise than my 8 year old, Made in Japan Ryobi, not to be confused with the new Ryobi, Made in China! Bill G.

This is a fine quality tool, it works flawlessly. I originally bought this tool to cut ceramic tile (which worked great), but I found so many other uses for it such as grinding fiberglass on my brother's boat, cut out steel window frames, and to remove glue and wood residue on concrete before screwing in a subfloor. The grinder is small enough to fit in most tight places and light enough to hold over head for long periods of time. This is one of my most heavily used power tools and it's still going strong! I have to say Bosch makes the best tools that last forever.

I purchased this Bosch grinder through Amazon.com to tuck point brick work. Received the tool in one week with free shipping. The paddle switch is a safe feature. When you release the paddle it stops. I found it to be very powerfull and it has absolutely no hesitation. Pure power!I installed a dry diamond blade for cutting brick - cut like butter with a hot knife. Installed a 4 1/2" diamond tuck point wheel and removed a mortar joint 35" wide in seconds. Highly recommend this tool if your looking for a good grinder. Well worth the money for the safety & power it delivers.

I've been using my grinder for about 1 years now and it's outlasted a Milwaukee grinder. My bosch has been dropped about a dozen time with no damage to the case.

There are better and there are definately worse angle grinders out there. There are also some more expensive and a lot of cheaper ones.
I have owned several grinders, worn out some, some just broke. I can confidently say that this model is right where I need for most every job I have to tackle. It is well worth the money, dont wind up with a junk grinder just to save yourself $20. The more expensive ones are nice, but they dont really do anything this one wont. From my experience, this one fits perfectly in cost vs. performance equation.

I bought this grinder specifically to use with a diamond cutting blade (the Bosch DB4563 4 1/2" General Purpose Premium Plus Turbo Diamond Circular Saw Blade) to cut and shape 2" thich flagstone pieces for an outdoor patio installation. I read and re-read the reviews carefully, and considering the price it seemed like a good bet to try this tool on for size. I have not been disapointed!
This tool is extremely light wieght and easy to use so I do not feel fatigued like I would by using a heavy tool. I feel almost no vibration at all and have only experienced kick-back when I try to force things (bad me!) instead of letting the machine and the diamond blade make the cut for me. The handle can be attached on either side of the head and it attaches at a 70 degree angle which is VERY comfortable. This tool is set up in such a way that I feel that I have total control over the cuts I am making. I have not made a single miscut since I started using this tool. I highly recomend it for cutting stone and for use with a diamond blade.

When I first got a paddle grinder, I didn't know what I'd use it for (got one in a kit). I found I used it to cut heavy wire around the house (like closet racks) and sharpen my riding lawn mower blade. I have used a couple of grinders since. I have tried several in the store too, like the Dewalt, Metabo, Hitachi and Makita. This one is the best one yet.
Bosch tools have always been excellent. This one reduces the felt vibration and the side handle is angled at 70 degrees, which is more comfortable in use that a 90 degree one. The guard has tool free adjustment and the paddle switch is great. I have small hands and I can hold the barrel of this one comfortably. I prefer a paddle switch, as the tool will automatically turn off when it's released (like an emergency). This one has a little lever that has to be depressed on the paddle to operate. This is a great feature, because if you accidentally set it down on the paddle, it won't turn on. It also has a separate button at the rear of the paddle to lock on the paddle for extended use (However, this overrides the safety of having a paddle). This one is in use making hollowed out chair seats. Highly recommended.

We already bought more than 10 of these grinders and they are the best value for the $$$ you pay.
Previoulsly used Metabo, Makita, DeWalt but none can compare with Bosch. Highly recomend it.

We have 5 of these in the shop and they are very good grinder. They can take the abuse of running for hours. The paddle switch is nice in case it binds into a corner or trys to kick back at you.It is comfortable to hold on to for a while. I don't know what the life span of these are IF they are treated nice but in the shop we get about a year of abuse out of them before the bearings start to make noise and it starts to shake in your hands and eventually just locks up.
Make no mistake though we are hard on them. They get dropped, soaked with machine coolant and we weld by them. If I didn't already have a grinder I would buy this Bosch.

This last weekend I was putting in windows. I have two 9ft sliding glass doors. Somehow I mismeasured and needed to cut the stucko back. This tool cut beautifully. It has plenty of power for my needs. It is my new favorite tool.
