5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!
Now I am a huge Makita fan. I always will be. I am sooo happy with my 18v combo kits. I thought all was well. Then I saw the 24v drill at a local home improvement center. I thought,"@#$%&! when will it ever end?." At that point I was able to resist. Then the combo kit came out. After checking them out closer,I knew there was at least one in my future. I...

I had purchased the Bosch 24 volt combo kit approximately a year ago in hopes of purchasing a great product. Bosch has not lived up to their name on this product. It ranks up there with the cheapest cordless tool you can find on the market. I do not recommend this tool to anyone. Within the first month of use the drill/driver motor had to be replaced. It took about 3...

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, January 4, 2000
This review is from: Bosch 3960CFK 24 Volt Drill/Circular Saw/Flashlight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was a little skeptical at first, thinking that my wrist might just give out. Well it hasn't yet. The drill is a real beauty. I don't think you can beat the TEE handle design everybody uses today. It really has a nice balance . The Bosch has a more balanced ,lighter feel than the Dewalt 24v drill. It's also much more compact.(I've had much better success in the past with Bosch cordless than the big yellow also)I haven't taken the time to measure the actual torque of this bad boy, but I have no reason to doubt Bosch's rating of over 500 inch pounds. It has plenty of power to do anything you want it too. Runtime is the longest I have ever seen. The light is quite bright . I found it a little less useful than the makita. The switch isn't as conveniently located. You can't aim it down when it's standing on the battery.(like when you are cutting in the dark and need the light concentrated on your work) You can however focus the beam somewhat by rotating the lens. I'm not sure yet how effective this actually is. The saw is simply outstanding. If my Makita's cut 2x4's like butter, The Bosch cuts them like melted butter. Unbeleivable! An included rip fence, magnesium base, all ball bearing construction, and a very effective blade brake are icing on the cake. You'll also appreciate being able to hook up your shop-vac to the saw for clean cutting inside finished buildings. Only one minor quibble. The safety release for the trigger on the Bosch is a little awkward. You have to push it in from the side. To do so you have to change your grip on the saw . The Makita has one on the top of the handle where you can easily push it with your thumb. That aside I highly recommend the combo kit from Bosch. I can't wait for the recip saw! Buy one you won't regret it . If $469.00 is too much, try the Makita. Either way, you'll say WOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Contractor grades this tool A+++, December 5, 2000
By

This review is from: Bosch 3960CFK 24 Volt Drill/Circular Saw/Flashlight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
Bosch has really done it this time. I used to own a Dewalt 18v system but my truck was stolen with all the tools so was forced (darn) to buy some new tools. I wanted the 24 volt system since I was starting fresh, but the big yellow system didn't come in kits at the time but Bosch did and at a price I could afford. Well no sooner did I open up the case that I fell in love with these tools. Yes there are some cons to them. The case is huge and won't fit in my utility bed boxes. The saws blade guard could be improved for better plunge cuts and thin cuts. The blade storage, inside the case, isn't threaded so blades always go all over the place. Now for the good stuff. Power, Power, Power. I have not been able to stall the drill yet on a fresh charge. The saw will stall but it has the most power of any cordless saw I've tried. I can cut the rafter tails on a new house with one charge. Its great for pickup work and in remote areas where you just need a few cuts and no power is available. Mind you, you can't build a whole house with this and stay on budget but you sure could have fun trying. Believe me, I am the envy of every job site when I pull out that saw. I use the drill every day and can attest you won't go wrong with this. !!Notice!! you can still get the free cordless recip saw with the sales receipt, upc from the box and the voucher from Bosch until the end of the year 2000. Just call their 800 number imprinted on the inside of the plastic case.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Winner in all respects, June 19, 2000
By

This review is from: Bosch 3960CFK 24 Volt Drill/Circular Saw/Flashlight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'm a huge Makita fan, and up until last week I thought they made the best cordless circ saw, and drill on the market. Until I met the Bosch 24 Volt line. Now don't get me wrong, I didn't just jump on the band-wagon because of 24 Volts. No, I'm a contractor so I bought the saw and drill to put them through the torture test and heres what I found:

Con: drill is bulky. Pro: More than makes up all it's faults in raw power [500 in/lbs of torque, thats about 40 foot-pounds of torque].

Con: open air vents on both saw and drill can be a gateway for water to enter the tool, meaning, uh-oh I just shorted my drill out! Pro: single sleeve industrial chuck on drill.

Con: bulky battery pack. Pro: battery is 2.5 Amp Hours, the best by makita is 2.2, and De-Walt is about 1.7, I dont even want to say what Milwaukee's is!

Con: to me, the plastic blade gaurd on the saw feels chintzy. Pro: That's one powerful saw, I cut 200 2X4's on one charge!

Con: handle on drill is not positionable, this is bad and heres why. My buddy borrowed my drill and was using it to drill in between studs, the handle does not rotate so the drill could not fit up in there. He was using a 2" ship auger hit a deck screw in the wood, the drill twisted and snapped his wirst all because the handle couldn't rotate down. Pro: tellin your friends this story.

That's about all the Cons I could think of so here are all the other Pros: Drill has the industries largest metal planetary gearing, saw has the industries largest motor, both tools are industrial quality and have a one year no quivle gaurantee.

Overall I would defineatly take the bosch anyday over any other company especially because for usually a measley 40 bucks more u can step up to 24 Volt power.

~Have fun and do yourself a favor, don't break your wrist.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's already been said, November 20, 2000
This review is from: Bosch 3960CFK 24 Volt Drill/Circular Saw/Flashlight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
If you are still not convinced by the other reviews, I will just add to what already has been said. This is one top-notch set. I was skeptical about the power of a cordless circ-saw. The drill I was confident would be up to par, but never having used a cordless saw, I had my doubts. After cutting through several 4x4 pressure treated lumber(not one pass), I was convinced. Does it replace the electric, it just might. Unless you spend 8 hours a day with a circ-saw in your hand, I would find it hard to say the Bosch can't handle it. Just the peace of mind of not having to worry about cutting the cord is enough. Just watch the fingers...it become so easy and light to whip the saw around, you can get a little careless.

5.0 out of 5 stars I now believe in a cordless saw, June 18, 2001

I bought this set primarily for the saw, but hey, who can't use another cordless drill. I have now used the saw to make every cut for a 500 sq foot cabin. 2x4s, 2x6s, engineered wood I beams, engineered structural beams, floor decking, plywood, etc., etc. What a winner! I am amazed at the long lasting power of the batteries. 1 hour to charge and days to run down. Bosch makes a great line of tools this one is no exception. The drill is very strong as well and don't forget to mail in the coupon for the reciprocating saw body.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most power and the best performing system. Dewalt 2nd, November 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bosch 3960CFK 24 Volt Drill/Circular Saw/Flashlight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This drill will outform any other drill driver. It not only has high torque, but also all of the other features. The Saw is the first cordless circular saw that feels like a corded tool. What power! I hear that the new reciprocating saw will also kick butt.

It ranks up there with the cheapest cordless tool you can find on the market. I do not recommend this tool to anyone. Within the first month of use the drill/driver motor had to be replaced. It took about 3 weeks to get it repaired. A month later the charger broke and I repaired it myself. I have replaced both batteries. Now I have to tape or strap the batteries to the tools in order to keep them from falling off. I have consulted with the manufactures and basically it comes down to the fact that they do not stand behing their product.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect circular saw, June 19, 2000
By
Mike (Freeport, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bosch 3960CFK 24 Volt Drill/Circular Saw/Flashlight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
My father has owned several circular saws from Skil and Craftsmen to Porter Cables top of the line. I do not own a corded circular saw and usually borrowed his. When I bought this set I had no idea how well a cordless circular saw would work. This is the most accurate circular saw I have ever seen. The saw also has a dustport which can be hooked up to a vacuum for easier clean up. The drill has an excellent chuck and adjustable torque. The battery could last a little longer but recharges quickly. I have owned this set for about three months already built a floating dock and and am currently building a shed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Converted from DeWalt, April 16, 2002
By
This review is from: Bosch 3960CFK 24 Volt Drill/Circular Saw/Flashlight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I had the DeWalt's 18-Volt Combo (Theft), but decided to go with Bosch after borrowing the drill at work. One word -POWER!

Drill/Driver: 500in/lbs. of torque One-handed 1/2 keyless chuck - For fast and easy bit changes 2 speed gear shift - High torque 0-400RPM, High speed 0-1300RPM 16 position torque control clutch - Adjust torque levels to match the task Variable speed trigger with electric brake left or right side-handle - For better control in drilling applications

Circular Saw: 3600 RPM - High power and torque for any cross or rip cut 50 degrees bevel capacity with positive stop at 45 degrees - Cuts 2x material at 50¡ã Rear depth adjustment - Fast and easy access to set blade depth for cleaner cuts Spindle lock - Allows for fast and easy blade changes Integrated dust collection port - Helps keep work space clean

BONUS -Reciprocating Saw: 0-2300 SPM - High power and speed for metal and wood cutting applications Dual Stroke cutting system - 2 different stroke lengths- 1-1/4" for fast and aggressive cuts, 3/4"for plunge and precise cuts Tool-less blade change system - For quick and easy blade changes

Flashlight: Prefer DeWalt's flexible flashlight for hands free illumination. Nice to have but do not use much.

Drawbacks: Tools become very hot very quickly. BULKY & HEAVY -Appreciate ergonomic handles & grips. Other than that very satisfied with all the tools. All have taken a beating at work with no problems. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Kit for Decking, July 22, 2000
By
This review is from: Bosch 3960CFK 24 Volt Drill/Circular Saw/Flashlight Combo Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This summer I started a job on a large play ground removeing all the old decking and replaceing it with Treks composit decking. I already had a Bosch 3610K 14.4v that a love but after almost 4 years of heavy use the bats. were only lasting me about 50 min. And the heat, heavy use, and sand was taking its toll on the old drill. I sent in the drill to be serviced for the first time. And purchased the 24V Kit and I have been very happy with it plunty of torque, and batt. life to run large skrews in high gear, I have been useing only about two batteries a day now running deck skrews all day with no pre-drilling. And the saw cuts like a champ. If you buy before july 31,2000 you Receive a FREE reciprocating saw with mail in Redemption. I can wait to get it.
